What people love about Fully Guided Tours in Portugal
- Highlights of Portugal
We certainly enjoyed all of the tour and our tour comrades. We are active and liked the walking and hiking. Neus Martinez (our guide) was great!! The tour exceeded our expectations. The guided tours and free time exploring were well balanced. We will recommend Explore and will probably book with them again.
- Highlights of Portugal
The best parts of the tour were the guides, Carlos and Gonzoles, cheese village and Quinta de Tedo. In order to write everything that made Carlos and Gonzoles excelent guides would take a week and result in a book. They were compassionate, caring, intelligent, knowledgeable. playful and fun people to hang out with and learn from. They made Portugal come alive for me.
- Best of Portugal
This was the exact same trip as destination services. We were actually combined. Tour is rin in Portugal by cityrama/ grayline tours. We were 9 people. Omega tours authorized us to be picked up at our hotel pre-tour HF Fenix Lisboa ( 300ft from pickup area for everyone else. We were trip 1/10-1/21/20. Loved tourmates, tourguide Pedro, driver Fabio. Because we were January excursion to spain ( Overnight porto) was a waste of time ( should have stayed in Porto for the day instead) the sight was tarped over for off-season repairs. They should have told us. Some hotels weren’t great. The upside- some hotels we were the only people there. For seeing sites we had no lines & weren’t waiting to see things. But many restaurants, shops in small villages were shuttered because its their off-season. The tour guide suggested restaurants where ever we went- that was very helpful. Note- if you are in a restaurant if its a fish or seafood- get it weighed before hand to agree on the price. This happened in Navarre gorgeous beach area but without experience we were charged 80euro for lunch. We had 2 fish & a gigantic grilled prawn. Lesson learned, we felt taken advantage of though. For rest of trip , prices were on menu- clearly. Very affordable food. Ever other excursion was really nice.Bring tissues for strange reason never in hotel rooms. I advise anyone to stay longer after the trip. We did extra 4 nights in Lisbon to be able to explore neighborhoods & museums. Recommend the Oriente museum & museum medeiros de almedia - the palace of a gentleman. Exquisite. Some people went back to the algarve, Madera islands. It will be a better trip when it’s warner.
What our customers ask about Portugal Guided Tours & Trips
What does a typical day look like on a fully guided Portugal tour?
Your day begins with breakfast at your included hotel such as the Neya Hotel in Porto. Morning activities focus on guided exploration of key sites like the Douro Valley or Lisbon's old quarters. After lunch you'll join cultural activities such as port wine tastings or explore charming towns like Obidos. Evenings are usually free for independent dining or optional experiences like traditional Fado shows. A recent traveler noted: "Our CEO Daniel made various suggestions for activities and meals while still being flexible in letting us choose our own activities. The orientation walks on the first day of each city helped us make decisions more easily."
What type of accommodations can I expect on a fully guided tour in Portugal?
Most tours provide centrally located 3-4 star hotels that blend comfort with authentic Portuguese character. Properties like the VIP Executive Entrecampos in Lisbon and Hotel Maria Nova Lounge in Tavira offer amenities such as rooftop bars pools and local restaurants. According to a recent guest: "The hotels were lovely including Hotel Astoria in Coimbra which is a beautiful and grand slice of history centrally located and on the river."
What is included in terms of meals on fully guided Portugal tours?
Tours typically cover daily hotel breakfasts and several group dinners featuring local specialties. You might enjoy a Farm-to-Table experience in the Douro Valley or fresh seafood by the coast in Nazaré. One traveler reported: "The included meals were fantastic - especially the welcome dinner with Fado music in Lisbon and the wine-paired dinner at Quinta da Pacheca in the Douro Valley." Some tours include lunch during day trips but also leave time to explore local restaurants on your own with recommendations from your guide.
What is the typical group size on fully guided tours in Portugal?
Groups usually range from 12-24 travelers allowing for personal attention and access to smaller venues. A recent participant shared: "With 16 people in our group it was the perfect size - intimate enough to get to know everyone but large enough to be social. Our guide could give individual attention when needed." These smaller numbers enable stays at boutique properties like the Velamar in Albufeira and visits to family vineyards that larger groups couldn't accommodate.
What is the best time of year to take a guided tour in Portugal?
Spring (March-May) and fall (September-October) provide optimal conditions for touring Portugal. These months offer comfortable temperatures for exploring cities like Lisbon and Porto with fewer tourists at popular spots such as Sintra's palaces. One traveler noted: "We went in April and it was perfect - warm enough for outdoor activities but not too hot for city walks with beautiful spring flowers blooming in Madeira." Summer can get quite hot particularly inland near Évora while winter brings rain but better prices and smaller crowds.
What level of physical activity should I expect on a fully guided Portugal tour?
Tours generally involve moderate walking on varied surfaces including cobblestone streets and hills especially in Porto and Lisbon. Expect to walk 2-3 hours daily at an easy pace. A recent guest shared: "The pace was well-planned without feeling over-regimented. The overall pace was just right with plenty of time to relax." Some itineraries particularly in the Douro Valley offer optional activities like vineyard walks or extended city exploration.
