What people love about Algeria Tours
- Oases & Sahara Tour
This was one of the best trips our family ever had. Algeria is a magical country, so rich in culture, history, natural wonders and amazing people. The contrast between the coast, its capital town of Algiers and the Sahara with its distinct oasis couldn't be more stunning. We enjoyed travelling by car as this allowed us to make many stops, engage with the people and understand the vastness of this country. Staying at different local charming guesthouses enhanced this experience. Each oasis is unique and worthwhile to spend as much time as possible to explore it. The absolute high of our trip was spending one night in a desert camp, surrounded by sand dunes and camels. Our lovely guide cooked dinner for us over the open fire, made bread using their traditional method and telling us Bedouin stories whilst sitting around the camp fire. The whole trip was organised to perfection, every little detail was taken care of. We can highly recommend this tour.
- M'Zab Valley & Oases Tour
Algeria is an interesting country to visit. The tour itinerary is great for people who want to see the country and love to visit sand dunes.
- Mature Saharan & Oases Tour
This tour is well worth doing. Every day of the tour was full of adventure, discovery and excitement and it was a trip I will never forget. I never imagined that the country of Algeria would be such a wonderful place. Deserts, valleys, ruins, starry skies, each place has its own culture, history and characteristics, and every day was full of fresh encounters. I have travelled to 150 countries and Algeria is definitely one of the top 5 most attractive countries. After touring around Algeria, I am still eager to go back. The welcome and kindness of the Algerian people is also an unforgettable and cherished memI hope many people will join this tour and see beautiful Algeria. What was the best part? That's a very difficult question, everywhere was amazing and everywhere was the place to go. I would recommend this tour with 100% confidence.
What our customers ask about Algeria Tours & Trips
What are the best cities to visit in Algeria for first-time travelers?
First-time visitors to Algeria should focus on three key cities. The capital Algiers welcomes travelers with its UNESCO-listed Kasbah a maze-like quarter of historic streets. Constantine stands out for its collection of bridges spanning deep gorges and well-preserved Roman ruins. The coastal city of Oran presents French colonial buildings and the scenic Santa Cruz Fort. Additional stops worth considering include the Roman sites of Djemila and Timgad. The desert town of Timimoun with its ochre buildings and local markets provides an authentic Saharan experience. As one TourRadar traveler noted "Algeria is an interesting country to visit with incredible sites from ancient Roman ruins to desert oases."
When is the best time to visit Algeria's Sahara region?
The Saharan regions of Algeria such as Taghit and Timimoun are best explored from October through April. During these months temperatures become manageable making desert excursions comfortable and enjoyable. Winter brings particularly pleasant conditions to Timimoun where visitors can explore the red caves and rolling dunes of Tindjillet without the intense heat. As noted by a TourRadar traveler: "The contrast between the coast its capital town of Algiers and the Sahara with its distinct oasis couldn't be more stunning" making these months ideal for experiencing both landscapes.
What type of accommodation can I expect in Algeria?
Algeria's accommodation options span modern city hotels desert lodges and traditional camps. The capital features international brands like the 5-star Sofitel Algiers Hamma Garden while Constantine houses the contemporary Novotel. Desert regions such as Taghit offer comfortable stays at places like the 4-star Saoura Hotel. Many desert excursions include nights at traditional bivouac camps set under star-filled skies. As one TourRadar traveler mentioned: "The mix of hotel stays and desert camping provided a perfect balance of comfort and authentic experiences."
What must-try local dishes are there in Algeria?
Algerian food combines North African and Mediterranean influences creating distinct flavors. Key dishes include couscous served with tender lamb or chicken chakhchoukha which combines torn flatbread with savory meat stew and bourek crispy stuffed pastries. Coastal cities serve fresh seafood while desert regions maintain the tradition of ceremonial Tuareg tea service. Hotels such as the Sofitel Algiers Hamma Garden offer both regional and international options. A TourRadar traveler shared: "The traditional meals during our desert tour were incredible especially the freshly baked bread and mint tea."
What are the must-visit UNESCO World Heritage sites in Algeria?
Algeria's UNESCO sites showcase the country's rich historical legacy. The M'Zab Valley in Ghardaia displays distinctive Mozabite architectural styles. Algiers' ancient Kasbah contains preserved Ottoman palaces while Tipaza presents extensive Roman ruins including a Colosseum and bathhouses. Visitors often base themselves at hotels like the Sofitel Algiers Hamma Garden when exploring these landmarks. As one TourRadar traveler noted: "We visited great historic towns and locales en route each place has its own culture history and characteristics and every day was full of fresh encounters."
What makes Algeria different from other North African destinations?
Algeria maintains an authenticity that sets it apart from its more visited neighbors. The country offers unique experiences from the architectural wonders of the M'Zab Valley to the vast expanse of the Grand Erg Occidental desert. A TourRadar traveler captured this distinction: "Having been out of bounds to western travelers for such a long time makes this place highly authentic and challenging to cross. Algeria is literally off the beaten path and presents itself as a highly adventurous alternative to the well visited regions of Morocco or Tunisia."
