What people love about Hiking & Trekking Tours from Tirana
- From Tirana: Bovilla Lake, the Canyon and Gamti Mountain Hike
It was great, the tour guide was very helpful in all ways to give our big group the best experience!
- Hiking Tour: Albania & Montenegro
Took a 3 day custom tour in the North Albanian mountains with Good Albania for my birthday. They were super helpful, responsive and really friendly throughout the booking process. Everything on the tour went smoothly and they made sure I was catered for as a vegetarian. Our guide and mountain expert was great and really knowledgeable. We felt really safe in his hands while we were hiking. And he seemed to like cats as much as I did! The guesthouses we stayed in were really welcoming and friendly too. Would definitely use Good Albania again.
- Hidden Valley Trek: Homestay Trekking & Southern Albania's Cultural Highlights (8 days)
Highly enjoyable trip with a strong sense of being well away from the more popular areas and seeing something of a hidden Albania. People were incredibly hospitable and the walking wasn't too strenuous. Highly recommended.
What our customers ask about Hiking near Tirana
What is the best season for hiking tours starting from Tirana?
If you're planning to hike from Tirana, plan your trip between May and October. The sweet spot is June through September, when the weather in the Albanian Alps stays between 68-77°F (20-25°C) - perfect for hiking. You won't find snow on popular trails like Valbona Pass and Theth during these months. Just keep in mind that July and August can get pretty hot, so TourRadar travelers suggest starting your hikes early in the morning when it's cooler.
What are the most popular hiking destinations near Tirana?
From Tirana, you can easily reach some incredible hiking spots. Most people head to Theth National Park, Valbona Valley, Dajti National Park, and the Accursed Mountains. The Komani Lake area and Blue Eye of Theth are local favorites too. One TourRadar traveler said, "The mountains of Theth are the most beautiful mountains I have ever seen, such nature is to be admired." You'll stay in charming local places like the Alpine Guesthouse in Theth or Valbona Valley Lodge along the way.
Where do you stay during hiking tours from Tirana?
You'll sleep in a mix of local guesthouses, mountain lodges, and family-run hotels. Many hikers stay at places like the Valbona Valley Guesthouse or with families in Theth village. The rooms are simple but comfortable, usually with private bathrooms, and you'll get to eat home-cooked Albanian meals. TourRadar travelers really liked the "delicious food and warm hospitality" at both Hotel Margjeka in Valbona and Bujtina Polia in Theth.
What level of fitness do I need for hiking tours from Tirana?
You should be reasonably fit for these hikes. Most days involve 4-8 hours of walking, going up 700-1200 meters in elevation. Take the Valbona to Theth trek - it's about 18km long and you climb up 1050m. As one TourRadar traveler put it, "This hike was wonderful for someone with a moderate level of physical activity, though some experience in hiking is recommended."
How tough is the hiking terrain around Tirana?
You'll find everything from moderate walks to challenging climbs. Most trails mix rocky paths, forest tracks, and high meadows. The Valbona Pass has some steep parts going up to 1759m, while the path from Theth to Blue Eye is gentler with a 700m climb. TourRadar travelers mention that "The paths are well-marked but can be steep and rocky, especially in the Accursed Mountains region" near Tirana.
How do I get from Tirana to the hiking spots?
Tour companies usually arrange a mix of private vehicles and local transport. Getting to Theth means a scenic drive through the Albanian Alps, and to reach Valbona you'll often take the popular Komani Lake ferry. One TourRadar traveler noted, "The transport arrangements were seamless, particularly the beautiful ferry ride through Komani Lake starting from Tirana."
