  • Day 1

    Madrid

    Start your Spanish adventure in Madrid. Book an afternoon arrival to avoid rush hour traffic from the airport. A guided tour of Madrid's historic center will orient you nicely. Start at Plaza Mayor, then explore your way to the Royal Palace. The summer sun can be strong here, so pack water and plan indoor activities during peak afternoon heat.

    Madrid to Seville (via Toledo)

    Head out early to Toledo, just an hour from Madrid. The medieval city rests high on a hill. Good walking shoes are essential - the cobblestone streets can be tricky. Take time to explore the Jewish Quarter before the 4-hour drive to Seville. Stop for lunch to sample local manchego cheese and jamón ibérico at a roadside taverna.

    Seville

    Seville to Gibraltar

    Gibraltar & Optional Tangier

    See the Rock of Gibraltar first thing - the monkeys are most active in the morning. You can take a quick ferry to Tangier if interested (45 minutes each way). If staying in Gibraltar, take the cable car up for views spanning two continents.

    Gibraltar to Granada

    Take the coastal road through Costa del Sol to Granada (4 hours). Stop in Malaga to eat near the Alcazaba fortress where you'll find great tapas spots. Plan to reach Granada by late afternoon to see the city bathed in light from the Sierra Nevada mountains.

    Granada

    Granada to Cordoba

    Cordoba to Madrid

  • Day 1

    Madrid to Córdoba

    Take the 11:00 AM high-speed train from Madrid to Córdoba (2 hours). Visit the Mosque-Cathedral by 2:00 PM to avoid peak crowds. Walk through the Jewish Quarter and see the beautiful flower-filled patios. Wear sturdy shoes for the slippery cobblestones.   • Days 1-2

    Seville

    Begin your trip in Seville's historic center. Try to arrive by mid-afternoon to get settled before the evening welcome meeting. Take an early morning walking tour the next day before the heat sets in. Summer temperatures often reach 95°F (35°C) by noon. Visit the Alcázar right when it opens at 8:30 AM to avoid crowds and get the best morning light for photos of its detailed Mudéjar architecture.

    Córdoba & Baeza

    Drive 1.5 hours to Córdoba to see the Mezquita-Cathedral. A good tip is to visit between 2-4 PM when most tour groups stop for lunch. From there, it's a 2-hour drive to peaceful Baeza for two nights. Use the next day to explore nearby Úbeda and visit local olive mills. Schedule olive tastings in the morning when your taste buds are most alert. This area makes some of Spain's best olive oil.

    Granada

    After a 1.5-hour drive from Baeza, spend your first evening walking through the old Albaicín neighborhood. Book the earliest possible slot (8:30 AM) for your Alhambra visit to avoid crowds. You will need to book Alhambra tickets about 90 days in advance since they sell out quickly. Bring comfortable walking shoes. The palace grounds have lots of steps and uneven cobblestones.

    Caminito del Rey

    You need to book this clifftop walkway ahead of time. The hike takes about 3 hours. Wear sturdy shoes with good grip and bring a light jacket since the walkways can get windy even in summer. Afterward, drive an hour to Ronda.

    
  • Days 8-9

    Ronda & Sierra de Grazalema

    Plan a full day of hiking in Sierra de Grazalema park. Start the 4-hour Benaoján trail early to beat the afternoon heat. On your last full day, explore Ronda's famous gorge and bridges before driving 2 hours back to Seville.

    Departure
