      Rome to Capri

Start your day early in Rome for the 3-hour drive south on the "Sun Route" motorway through Lazio and Campania. Eat breakfast before leaving since it's a straight drive to Naples port. Take the 50-minute ferry to Capri. Book ferry tickets ahead of time if traveling in summer. Visit the Blue Grotto first and try to get there before 2 PM to avoid the crowds. If rough seas make the grotto inaccessible take the chairlift up Monte Solaro for spectacular views instead. Spend your evening in Capri Town after the day visitors leave to experience the piazzetta like a local.

      Exploring Capri

Stay in Anacapri the quieter hillside town that offers better hotel prices and a more local feel. Start your morning on the Phoenician Steps but bring good shoes as the ancient stairs can get slippery. Skip the tourist restaurants near the piazzetta for lunch. Instead visit Da Gelsomina where locals go for great food and amazing views from their terrace. Book your return ferry early since afternoon trips often fill up during peak season. Head to Marina Piccola for afternoon swimming where the water stays calmer than the north side.

      Capri to Rome

Take an early walk through the Gardens of Augustus before the crowds show up at 9 AM. Leave your bags at the hotel and spend the morning exploring the quieter eastern coast. Take an afternoon ferry back around 2 PM to avoid Rome's rush hour traffic. The drive can stretch past 4 hours with Naples traffic so plan for a late dinner in Rome after 8 PM.

      Naples

Arrive and check into your hotel in Naples' historic center. The Toledo metro station is a good reference point and the nearby Spaccanapoli district gives you a real taste of Naples. In the evening walk over to Via dei Tribunali for authentic pizza. Skip the tourist spots and look for restaurants where you see locals waiting in line.

      Pompeii and Mt. Vesuvius

Plan for an early pickup around 8:10 AM. One visitor shared this advice: "There are lots of tour buses gathering in the morning - ask your hotel exactly where to wait and get the guide's name/phone in advance to avoid confusion." The ride to Pompeii takes about 30 minutes. Visit the Forum first while it's still cool then explore the thermal baths and preserved houses. Make sure to wear good walking shoes since Pompeii's old streets are uneven and can get slippery. After lunch (which is included) you'll head to Mt. Vesuvius. The bus stops at the 1,000m point but you'll need to walk the last part to reach the crater. It's a steep 30-minute climb on gravel. Bring water and something warm to wear since the top can be windy. You'll get amazing views of both the crater and the Bay of Naples. The tour returns to the city around 4:30 PM so you'll have time to explore Naples in the evening.

      Naples

Start with your included breakfast before checking out. If you're leaving later you can store your bags at the hotel and visit the National Archaeological Museum which displays many original Pompeii artifacts. Go in the morning before the cruise crowds show up.

      Sorrento to Capri

Meet at Marina di Stabia by 8:30 AM for your safety briefing before departing at 9 AM. You'll sail along the Sorrento Coast first, with about 3 hours to explore Sorrento's historic center. Visit Corso Italia early to beat the crowds and try the local limoncello. A recent sailor shared: "Beautiful landscapes, pleasant sailing, nice team, excellent skipper - though be prepared for engine use if the winds aren't favorable." In the afternoon, sail to Capri's Faraglioni rocks for drinks. Stay to explore Capri town after most tourists leave. Take the funicular from Marina Grande to the town (€2.00 one-way) and walk to Punta Tragara for great Faraglioni views. Bring good walking shoes since Capri's streets are steep and can be slippery.

    • Day 2

      Blue Grotto to Amalfi

Get to the Blue Grotto by 9:30 AM to avoid crowds. You'll switch to small rowing boats to enter through the narrow cave opening. Note that rough seas can close the grotto. After seeing all of Capri by boat, sail past Punta Campanella into Amalfi Coast waters, stopping at Nerano Bay for lunch and swimming. The afternoon takes you past Li Galli islands and Positano on your way to Amalfi. You'll see the impressive Duomo as you approach. Visit the cathedral in late afternoon when it's cooler. One guest noted: "The itinerary was well planned so the trip was really relaxing and enjoyable. We were neither rushing to a place nor spending too much time on one spot."

    • Day 3

      Positano and Return

Start your last day sailing to Positano. The town spreads up steep cliffs, so expect lots of stairs. For a quieter beach experience, walk 10 minutes to Fornillo Beach instead of the busy main Spiaggia Grande. The view of Positano's buildings stepping down to the sea is stunning from the water. Have lunch near Li Galli islands before heading back to Marina di Stabia, arriving around 3 PM. The return sail covers about 15 nautical miles and takes about 2 hours depending on conditions. If you have evening travel plans, allow 45-60 minutes to drive back to Naples.
