  • Day 1

    Rome to Capri

    Start your day early in Rome for the 3-hour drive south on the "Sun Route" motorway through Lazio and Campania. Eat breakfast before leaving since it's a straight drive to Naples port. Take the 50-minute ferry to Capri. Book ferry tickets ahead of time if traveling in summer. Visit the Blue Grotto first and try to get there before 2 PM to avoid the crowds. If rough seas make the grotto inaccessible take the chairlift up Monte Solaro for spectacular views instead. Spend your evening in Capri Town after the day visitors leave to experience the piazzetta like a local.

    Exploring Capri

    Stay in Anacapri the quieter hillside town that offers better hotel prices and a more local feel. Start your morning on the Phoenician Steps but bring good shoes as the ancient stairs can get slippery. Skip the tourist restaurants near the piazzetta for lunch. Instead visit Da Gelsomina where locals go for great food and amazing views from their terrace. Book your return ferry early since afternoon trips often fill up during peak season.     Capri to Rome

    Take an early walk through the Gardens of Augustus before the crowds show up at 9 AM. Leave your bags at the hotel and spend the morning exploring the quieter eastern coast. Take an afternoon ferry back around 2 PM to avoid Rome's rush hour traffic. The drive can stretch past 4 hours with Naples traffic so plan for a late dinner in Rome after 8 PM.

  • Day 1

    Rome to Sorrento

    Get an early start with a 6:30 AM hotel pickup in Rome. Book a centrally located hotel to ensure pickup service. The 3-hour coach journey to Sorrento takes you through beautiful Italian countryside.     Capri (April-October)

If the grotto isn't open you'll visit the stunning Faraglioni rocks instead. Your afternoon is perfect for exploring Capri's boutiques and sampling local limoncello. For winter visits (November-March): Enjoy a free day in Sorrento.     Pompeii and Return to Rome

    Check out by noon for a 1:15 PM departure to Pompeii. You'll spend about 2 hours at the archaeological site. According to one visitor: "The guide at Pompeii was excellent - having someone explain what you're looking at makes all the difference." Bring good walking shoes with grip since the ancient streets can be slippery. In summer pack water and sun protection since the ruins offer little shade. The return trip to Rome takes about 3 hours.     Rome to Sorrento

    Take a morning boat to explore Capri's Blue Grotto if weather allows. Next a minibus takes you up to Anacapri at 918 feet for incredible views of the Bay of Naples.
