What people love about Western Norway Tours
- Magic of the Fjords
The experience in Norway was fantastic - from the wonderful landscapes to the activities to the food and accommodations. The tour guide (Marina) was knowledgeable, engaging, and extremely helpful to ensure the trip was as smooth and fun as possible. The itinerary was engaging and there was so much beauty to see in Norway.
- Magical Fjord Adventure
We were very pleased with all the accommodations, and especially in Balestrand at the Kviknes Hotel. The views and the meals were superb. Our only concern was the train leaving over 1 hour late from Oslo to Mrydal. Thankfully the Flam train was held for us or we would have missed our connection and possibly the ferry to Balestrand.

What our customers ask about Western Norway Tours & Trips
When is the best time to visit Western Norway for a general sightseeing tour?
Western Norway welcomes visitors year-round with distinct seasonal experiences. Summer (June through September) brings mild temperatures of 18-20°C (64-68°F) perfect for outdoor activities and fjord cruising. The Clarion Admiral Hotel in Bergen reports its busiest period during July and August. Winter visits from November to March transform the landscape into a snow-covered wonderland with chances to see the northern lights. Many attractions operate on reduced schedules during winter months. According to TourRadar travelers "we were so fortunate to have great weather and enjoyed walking tours of the cities" while exploring Bergen Oslo and the fjords during summer months.
What are the must-see highlights on a general tour of Western Norway?
Western Norway's natural wonders center around the UNESCO-listed Geirangerfjord where the Seven Sisters waterfall cascades down steep cliffs. Bergen's historic Bryggen wharf preserves the area's Hanseatic heritage while the Flåm Railway winds through dramatic mountain passes. The Kviknes Hotel in Balestrand serves as a base for exploring Sognefjord. Visitors should plan stops at the Nigardsbreen Glacier and Hardangerfjord known for its fruit orchards. The Bergen Fish Market offers local seafood specialties. As one TourRadar traveler noted "The fjords are indeed magical! I recommend the tour with all my heart!"
What types of accommodation can I expect on Western Norway general tours?
Western Norway's accommodations blend historic charm with modern comfort. Properties range from waterfront hotels to mountain lodges. The historic Kviknes Hotel in Balestrand offers views across Sognefjord while the Clarion Admiral Hotel puts guests in Bergen's harbor district. The Fretheim Hotel in Flåm connects visitors to mountain landscapes. Each property typically includes Norwegian breakfast service. A TourRadar traveler confirms "All lodging and transportation was just as described. The hotels were in THE BEST locations!"
How many days should I plan for a general tour of Western Norway?
A thorough exploration of Western Norway requires 7-9 days. Popular itineraries like the "Vision of the Fjords" cover key sites in 7 days from Oslo to Bergen. The more extensive "Norway: Fjords and Glaciers" tour allows 9 days for deeper discovery. Active days typically start early as noted by a TourRadar traveler: "The 9-day itinerary was well planned with travel days and completely filling our hiking days usually starting at 7:45 AM and returning around 5 PM each day."
What's the best way to photograph Western Norway's dramatic landscapes?
Key photo locations include viewpoints along the UNESCO-listed Geirangerfjord especially the Geiranger Skywalk Platform at 1500m. Bergen's Bryggen wharf offers rich colors at sunset while the Flåm Railway presents countless photo opportunities. Pack a wide-angle lens for landscapes and weather-sealed gear for Norway's frequent rain. One TourRadar traveler suggests: "We got our best shots from the Geirangerfjord cruise seeing the Seven Sisters waterfall and from Mount Fløyen overlooking Bergen."
What's special about the food experiences on Western Norway tours?
Western Norway's cuisine focuses on local ingredients from sea and land. Bergen's Fish Market serves fresh salmon shrimp and regional specialties. The Hardangerfjord area produces fruit and traditional cider. Hotels like the Kviknes in Balestrand prepare extensive breakfast spreads with Norwegian dishes.
