Itinerary
- Day 1
Bergen
You'll arrive at Bergen airport and pick up your rental car, then the rest of the day opens up for exploring on your own schedule. Head down to the fish market to see what's fresh, or wander through Bryggen with its colorful wooden buildings (it's a UNESCO World Heritage Site). If you want views of the whole city, take the funicular up Mount Fløien and spend time at the top before heading back down.

Bergen to Balestrand
After breakfast at your hotel, you'll have some time to walk around Bergen before driving south toward Balestrand. The drive takes you along the way to Sognefjord, which locals call the King of Norway's fjords. You'll see where the Aurlandsfjord arm connects to the main Sognefjord, and it's one of those fjord systems that really lives up to the hype for size and scenery.

Landmarks Sognefjord Aurlandsfjord - Day 3
Balestrand
This day is completely yours to fill however you'd like. You can stay around Balestrand and check out the local area at a relaxed pace. If you want something more structured, there's an optional half-day trip to Fjærland (available June through September) that includes a boat through the fjord, visits to Boyabreen and Supphellebreen glaciers, and the Norwegian Glacier Museum where they show a film about Jostedalen Glacier.

- Day 4
Balestrand to Sunnfjord
After breakfast, you'll drive to Sunnfjord, a region known for its deep fjords, tall mountains, and green valleys. The area has plenty of options depending on what interests you, from hiking and kayaking to fishing or just enjoying the landscape. There's also traditional folk music and dance if cultural stuff appeals to you, plus local restaurants where you can try regional food.

Landmarks Sunnfjord - Day 5
Sunnfjord to Flåm to Hardangerfjord
After breakfast, head to Flåm and cruise through Nærøyfjord, which is the real highlight of the day. You'll return by bus from Gudvangen back to Flåm, but first you have the option to ride the Flåmsbana train, one of the world's steepest railway lines that winds through tunnels and past waterfalls and steep cliffsides. Later on, you'll drive to Hardangerfjord, one of Norway's most iconic fjords.

Hardangerfjord
After breakfast, you'll explore Ulvik and the Hardangerfjord area. This village sits surrounded by mountains and forest, so it's a good base for seeing what the region has to offer. You might go see Vøringsfossen waterfall near Eidfjord, check out the Hardanger Folk Museum, or take one of the hiking trails around Ulvik and along the fjord itself. It's all up to how you want to spend your time.

Hardangerfjord to Bergen
After breakfast, you'll drive back to Bergen. The rest of the day is open, so you can either explore more of the city if you haven't had enough, or just relax and get ready for your departure tomorrow.

Bergen
After a final breakfast at your hotel, head out for some last-minute shopping to pick up Viking souvenirs or anything else you want to bring home. Then you'll return your rental car to the airport for your departure.
