Travel Alsace & Lorraine your way
Explore a wide diversity of river cruises through Alsace & Lorraine. We have 45 cruises that vary from 4 days to 7 days. With the greatest number of departures in December, this is also the most popular time of the year.
See all River Cruise toursIf you want to really experience Alsace's wine country, our bike tours hit just the right speed - and yes, we've got e-bikes if you want a bit of help on those hills. The rides typically run 6-8 days, covering about 17 to 38 miles daily through rolling vineyards and past medieval village walls. The stretch from Obernai up to Mont Saint Odile is a favorite; you get great views and can pop into family wineries along the way. Between Colmar and Riquewihr, you're free to stop whenever you spot an interesting castle or timber-framed town. Our cyclists love how the e-bikes make those steeper sections manageable without missing out on the active feel of cycling. We've set up a nice mix of GPS routes for independent riding and local guides for cultural insights. Your bags move ahead to the next hotel while you ride, and most tours include wine tastings - though as our riders often joke, the rich Alsatian-German food might cancel out the exercise!
See all Bicycle toursOur most thorough Alsace tours take you through 26 carefully chosen spots that really show off the region's French-German character. You'll wind through Strasbourg's old-world streets and discover quiet wine villages, with plenty of surprises along the way. Our travelers tell us they love the evening walks around Carcassonne's lit-up fortress and the relaxing boat rides through Strasbourg's canal network, where flowers spill over every railing. We mix in some interesting detours to old limestone quarries and Roman aqueducts, though some guests mention they'd prefer more time at each major site rather than trying to fit everything in. The tours work best when we balance the grand stops like Heidelberg Castle and the Palace of the Dukes with proper time in small wine towns like Riquewihr and also Ribeauvillé, where you can really settle into local life.
Select from our extensive range of 47 fully guided tours to enjoy a worry-free experience through Alsace & Lorraine with our expert guides leading the way.

21 tours in Alsace & LorraineWant something more exclusive? Our private walking and cycling tours through Alsace adapt to your own rhythm. A particularly good 6-day route begins in Eguisheim, taking you through Grand Cru vineyards to spots like Turckheim, where you can still hear the night watchman calling out the hours in traditional dress. Daily hiking distances run 14-23km, though we can arrange taxis to skip sections when needed. For cyclists, the private Strasbourg to Colmar route is a favorite, with optional challenging detours to areas like the "Five Castles." You'll get to set your own pace - spend extra time exploring Castle Haut-Koenigsburg or wandering Riquewihr's medieval lanes. Your notes include local tips about the best restaurants and wine cellars, and we handle all the details so you can just enjoy your time.
Top Alsace & Lorraine travel itineraries to fit your plans

Seven-day Alsace tours give you different ways to really get to know the area. River cruising means you unpack once and glide along the Marne-Rhine Canal from Strasbourg to Lagarde - there's something special about those candlelit lunches as you pass through the canal tunnels. If you like getting active, walking tours from Eguisheim take you on daily hikes between 14-23km through the Vosges mountains and into medieval wine villages. Our guests always mention how much they love hearing the night watchman's traditional song in Turckheim and tasting fresh Munster cheese right at the source. The mountain paths climb up to 927m at Petit Honack, though we can arrange taxis if you want to skip the tougher bits. For an easier pace, cycling follows similar routes but gives you time to explore places like Mont Saint Odile monastery and also the cobblestone lanes of Riquewihr.

Ten-day journeys let you dive deeper by combining Alsace with nearby regions. Some routes start in Spain's cities, move through the Swiss Alps and then settle into Alsace - it's fascinating to experience the shift from Madrid's buzz to quiet moments in villages like Riquewihr. Other tours head north through Burgundy and the Black Forest, where our guests particularly enjoy mixing up wine sessions in Beaune, boat rides on Strasbourg's canals and walks near Triberg's waterfalls. You'll find some unexpected stops too, like Savigny Castle's collection of vintage vehicles and Bordeaux's hands-on Cité du Vin museum. With ten days, you've got proper time to soak up local life, whether you're trying wines in Colmar or taking evening walks through Baden-Baden's parks and gardens.
Demographics
The Alsace region really shines for couples, especially on our 9-day tours that start in Catalonia. These routes give you both grand moments and quiet time together - you'll walk along the medieval walls of Carcassonne in the evening light and discover family wine cellars that have been around for generations. Our travelers tell us they love exploring Strasbourg's Petite France district as the sun sets, where timber houses from centuries past reflect in the canals and cozy restaurants await. You get to glide through flower-lined waterways, visit the impressive Heidelberg Castle gardens and explore charming little wine villages like Ribeauvillé. What works so well is how the schedule flows - you'll have guided visits to key spots but also plenty of free time to wander together, whether you're trying Munster cheese where it was first made or taking your time on Black Forest paths.
Our active Alsace adventures connect with young adults looking for physical challenges mixed with cultural discoveries. Daily cycling routes stretch 35-38 miles between medieval towns, with travelers particularly drawn to paths linking Strasbourg to Molsheim, and also Obernai. The multi-day Vosges Mountain hikes attract energetic visitors, with daily walks covering 14-23km past ancient castles and family-owned wineries. Food experiences add depth to these journeys - you'll work alongside Michelin-starred chefs, visit centuries-old wine cellars, and explore traditional cheese-making in the Munster Valley. These tours resonate with younger guests through their blend of solo exploration and group activities - tackle trails independently then gather for evening events like Turckheim's night watchman tours or atmospheric dinners in canal tunnels. The routes balance demanding sections, such as the 927m ascent to Petit Honack, with cultural elements like exploring Strasbourg's waterways, wandering through cobblestone lanes and also wine village discoveries.
Our 4-7 day Alsace river tours are particularly popular with senior travelers who appreciate a gentler pace. You'll unpack once on your river ship and watch medieval towns and vineyards come to you. The ships dock right in town centers which makes everything easier - in Strasbourg, you can walk straight to the cathedral. Some of our senior travelers enjoy the walking tours through Saverne and Lutzelbourg, while others prefer taking it easy with special experiences like candlelit lunches while passing through canal tunnels. A visit to Lehrer Crystal Glassworks mixes nicely with quiet afternoons watching villages drift by from the deck. Each evening brings something special - maybe local musicians or a chance to try regional dishes like tarte flambée - making each day full but never rushed.

Best time to visit Alsace & Lorraine
- Winter 2025 / 2026
The Christmas markets transform Alsace and Lorraine into something quite special during winter. Our 4-day river cruise puts you right in the middle of Strasbourg's decorated old town, with the boat moored perfectly for exploring the festive streets lit up with thousands of lights. You'll find two really nice options: there's a tour combining the Potter villages up in northern Alsace plus an evening at the Royal Palace show in Kirrwiller, which our guests tell us hits just the right balance of craft and entertainment. For wine lovers and culture seekers, we run specialized tours through the decorated wine villages where you can explore Colmar's cozy market squares, taste wines in family cellars and also spend evenings wandering Strasbourg's illuminated lanes.

- Spring 2026
Spring opens up excellent touring possibilities in Alsace, with routes that truly showcase the seasonal beauty and pleasant temperatures. Cyclists setting out from Strasbourg cover about 35-38 miles each day on dedicated paths, meandering through medieval gems like Molsheim, Obernai and past Mont Sainte-Odile when visibility is at its finest. River cruises offer a more relaxed option, combining wine tastings with visits to traditional cheese producers near Eguisheim and expert-led walks through Colmar's historic center. Active travelers tend to favor the Vosges Mountain trails, which connect wine villages over 14-23 kilometers daily as spring vegetation emerges. Europamundo's guides bring local stories and historical context to each destination, though our guests occasionally mention wanting additional time in certain spots. Both hiking and cycling routes through Discover France strike an excellent balance between serene countryside paths and cultural highlights, backed by responsive service and thoughtfully chosen lodging options.

Summer in Alsace offers excellent touring conditions, with three compelling routes that our travelers consistently enjoy. The river journeys through the Marne-Rhine Canal combine relaxed cruising between medieval towns, intimate candlelit lunches in canal tunnels and also visits to Lehrer Crystal Glassworks. For active travelers, walking tours from Kaysersberg traverse the Vosges Massif, reaching 927m at Petit Honack, though we provide transport options to bypass challenging sections if needed. The paths lead through Grand Cru vineyards into traditional villages like Turckheim, where the night watchman still makes his evening rounds. Our guests appreciate the balanced 14-23km daily walks connecting wine villages, ancient castles and small Munster cheese producers, who welcome visitors to sample their fresh products. These summer routes naturally blend outdoor activity with cultural depth - from Celtic religious sites near Gueberschwihr to beautifully preserved 16th-century wine-growers' homes tucked away in medieval village streets.

How can I best explore the Alsace region?
You've got lots of great options for discovering Alsace. Hop on a bike and pedal along the famous Wine Route where you'll get to taste wines at family vineyards or head into the Vosges Mountains for some really rewarding hiking through picture-perfect villages like Kaysersberg and Riquewihr. If you're looking for something more relaxed take a river cruise on the Marne-Rhine Canal it's a lovely way to see the countryside and historic towns like Saverne. One of our travelers Lorraine actually found that even when it rained during her summer trip on the Alsace Walking Tour she still had an amazing time thanks to the comfortable hotels and incredible local food.
What local foods should I try in Alsace and where can I find them?
The food here is this amazing mix of French and German influences you won't find anywhere else. You've got to try tarte flambée it's like this incredible thin-crust pizza topped with crème fraîche onions and bacon that goes perfectly with local wines. Then there's baeckeoffe a hearty slow-cooked stew and choucroute garnie which is sauerkraut loaded with different meats and sausages. The best places to try all this are the Winstubs these cozy wine bistros with their red-checked tablecloths and shared wooden tables create such a warm atmosphere. One of our travelers on the 7 Days All Inclusive Alsace Authentic Luxury Gourmet Tour loved an unexpected stop at Ingersheim Flea Market and really enjoyed the eaux de vie tasting at Bollenberg after hours.
Is Alsace worth visiting for wine lovers?
If you're into wine you're going to love Alsace! The Wine Route stretches for 170 kilometers through beautiful rolling hills and vineyards with so many chances to taste and tour cellars. You'll discover amazing white wines like Riesling Gewürztraminer Pinot Gris and Muscat. The wine villages are absolutely charming especially Riquewihr Eguisheim and Kaysersberg where you can visit local wineries join wine festivals and learn about the region's incredible wine heritage. Our Bicycling the Vineyards of Alsace tour is perfect for getting up close with small family wineries and trying their wines.
What unique cultural experiences can I find in Alsace?
There's so much more to Alsace than just food and wine. You can watch the traditional night watchman in Turckheim wearing his 16th-century costume as he makes his 10 pm rounds turning off streetlights. The wine festivals here are incredible and really bring the region to life. Make sure to visit the Écomusée d'Alsace it's this fascinating open-air museum with over 70 historic buildings showing traditional rural life. History buffs will love the Humanist Library in Sélestat with its collection of rare books and manuscripts dating all the way back to the 7th century.
