- SGSusan· November 6th, 2023This tour is a fabulous introduction to Japan. It is fast paced with lots of walking and use of Japan’s massive transportation system- from the bullet train to the subway with someone to guide you through the complexities. Our guide, Mika, was exceptional making sure each individual’s needs were met and sharing her vast knowledge of the country and culture. The itinerary was varied from big city to country side and we found the Japanese people to always be polite and helpful. The group is limited to 15 or less so you get to know everyone. We were fortunate to have a great group.Show moreTrip date: October 2023

- GLGregory· January 6th, 2023The tour was a fantastic display of both Japanese culture and sights. The group I was with was great enhancing the already wonderful experience. I was also travelling with an elderly individual so I didn't know how well they would take to the physical requirements of the tour, but are tour guide made every effort to accommodate them when they could - be it taking a little bit of a detour to find a elevator; escalator or always checking in on them when they could which we both appreciated greatly. I was also interested in Japanese culture personally so I would ask the guide different questions related to the topic and they answered each question gleefully, glad that I was taking a personal interest into the subject. With that said I'm already planning my next trip back.Show moreTrip date: December 2022
- CDCharlotte· September 15th, 2019I loved this tour and I would book it again! You get a perfect overview of nice places in Japan, with a perfect mix between traditional Japanese and modern culture. Everything was nicely planned and organized by our amazing guide, resulting in no worries and no stress during the trip. The hotels, the transportation, the food...everything was great. I especially liked the additionally planned activities/experiences, such as the chopstick gold leaf experience or the meeting with the Kembu Masters. Also the size of the group (10 persons) was a very good fit.Show moreTrip date: September 2019

Asked on October 4th, 2024How much luggage can we bring? We usually have one smallish roller bag with a knapsack that fits on top. Is that okay?
- National Geographic Journeys with G AdventuresOperator•Written October 2024
It's essential to pack as lightly as possible for rail travel in Japan. All G Adventures tours use the world-famous Shinkansen bullet trains, which have a restriction on maximum luggage size. Any luggage brought on board the train must be less than 160cm in total (calculated as the sum of the height + width + depth of your luggage). This is roughly the size that most airline companies consider as "carry-on baggage" and allow in overhead storage compartments. As this tour includes city-to-city luggage transfers, this restriction only affects your carry-on luggage on board the train. This tour includes a city-to-city luggage transfer service known as "takuhaibin" in Japan, so you will not have to worry about carrying your large luggage on and off trains as we travel. Please note that you will not have access to your bags during the transfers from city to city, and will not be reunited with your large luggage until the following day. On these days, we recommend using an overnight bag (under 160cm in total) for anything you may need, including valuables.

Asked on June 1st, 2024Would it be possible to add Naoshima either before or after the tour? What would you recommend and what would you estimate to be the additional cost?
- National Geographic Journeys with G AdventuresOperator•Written June 2024
Our tours are sold as a package so we can not add extra days to a tour. None of our tours visit Naoshima. If you would like to add this to any of our tours you would have to arrange it independently.

Traveler•Written June 2024I would like to add a visit to Naoshima, the art island, before or after this tour. What do you suggest regarding dates, where to stay, and transportation to/from Naoshima to connect with the Nat'l Geographic tour? Also, how much would it cost?
- National Geographic Journeys with G AdventuresOperator•Written June 2024
Since we don't offer excursions or activities to Naoshima or the Art Island, its very difficult for us to make recommendations on how to go about planning this, as we would be searching online the same way as you. We'd recommend seeing if you could find another tour operator (possibly local to Japan) to plan a few days in these spots, or explore booking day tours/excursions through a company like Viator.

Asked on April 26th, 2024Is the luggage restriction on the train just for our overnight luggage? Is bigger bags allowed? Will we have to carry our over night luggage around with us when we are touring the different locations?
- National Geographic Journeys with G AdventuresOperator•Written April 2024
All G Adventures tours use Shinkansen bullet trains, which have a restriction on maximum luggage size. Any luggage brought on board the train must be less than 160cm in total. This tour includes a city-to-city luggage transfer service known as 'takuhaibin' in Japan, so you will not have to worry about carrying your large luggage on and off trains.
