- JHJenny· July 5th, 2025Itinerary was fantastic…loved the included activities like the calligraphy, meditation, the sake tasting, biking in Kyoto, would’ve loved the sushi making if I planned my flights right :-p, but that was my bad forgetting the 16 hr time difference!!!. Our guide was enthusiastic about Japan. He got us where we needed to go, and watched our luggage at the train stations. He pointed out the kitchen area in Osaka when we were looking to find a knife to bring home. But I sometimes got the impression that he felt like the tour was as much for his enjoyment as for the guests, and there were a couple of times when I was distracted by something and asked him to repeat what he said and he was clearly annoyed. Or he was dismayed when we didn’t know something about Japan (like what Kawaii is). He also gave us the wrong information about the closing times at Kamakura shops and Kyoto tower. But overall, he tried hard to provide us with a good tour experience and succeeded. The upgrade to the private rooms that we took advantage of was well worth it (we are not 20 year olds). We were placed in hotels in Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka. Still had the hostel in kamakura, and the beds were coffin-like bunks with thin mattresses that were super uncomfortable. That wasn’t just from me…another lady (there were only 3 others on our tour) had the same issue. The other hostel was perfectly fine. The guesthouse…I was a little nervous because I was told we might not have a private room but we did, and just had to share the bathroom. It was actually a really cool place to stay. Loved the onsen time! One of the hotels we stayed at had its own really nice onsen too. I was disappointed in our hotel in Osaka. We were supposed to stay at a 3 star hotel and they changed us to Arrow, which is a 2 star hotel. I tried to talk to the company ahead of time to say that this was not comparable to where we were supposed to be but they insisted that it wasn’t a downgrade. It was old and grungy, and the mattress was cheap and lumpy. It was definitely a 2 star hotel. Plus you had no choice but to lug your luggage upstairs to get to the lobby and elevator. It was a good location, but there was also an APA hotel nearby that would’ve been more “comparable” to where we should’ve stayed originally. Overall, we loved all of the sites we got to see the food we got to try, we enjoyed the other people who came on the tour, and had a fantastic time.Show moreThe Dragon Trip commented on this reviewThank you so much for taking the time to share your detailed feedback with us! - Jenny· June 22nd, 2025Got to see a lot of places on this whirlwind tour. It was nice to have an English speaking guide help us get around and tell us a bit about the places we visited. We upgraded to a private room, and stayed at a hotel at a couple places and at the hostels it in a private room in others. It was budget…basic accommodations and you travel on public transportation shlepping your things, but if you know that going in, then it’s understood.Show moreThe Dragon Trip commented on this reviewI'm glad you were able to see a lot of places on this trip and that you English speaking guide was informative. - Katie· June 15th, 2025It was a well balanced tour with plenty of free time but a good itinerary meaning you tick off all the main spots in Japan! Our group was a mix of families with older children & solo travellers - I know the tour op can’t help this, but I would’ve liked a trip with more solo travellers. Vin the tour guide was a nice guy but felt he could’ve got himself a bit more involved in the group at times and bring a bit more energy. Accommodation was great as I opted for the single room option and I didn’t feel isolated from the group because of this at all. Overall, a good tour for the price.Show moreThe Dragon Trip commented on this reviewThank you so much for your feedback! Asked on June 24th, 2025How many people have already signed up for this holiday? What is the average age? Has the holiday already been confirmed for this departure date? Is the language spoken during this trip English?
- The Dragon TripOperator•Written June 2025

Asked on June 14th, 2025I am considering booking a tour for myself and my niece, who recently graduated high school and is 17 years old. I am 57 years old. Could you please let me know if we are eligible to make this reservation?
- The Dragon TripOperator•Written June 2025
You are both eligible for booking this tour. However, please note that this tour includes dorm room as the standard accommodation, meaning you would be sharing with other guests throughout. There is the option to upgrade your accommodation to twin rooms, which you and your niece could share whilst also having some added privacy and comfort. This room upgrade is priced at £880 GBP and applies throughout the tour, apart from in Hakone where all travellers will stay in a Ryokan style home, and will be sharing rooms of 3-4 people. The Kamakura hostel we use is very strict with its minors policy, and under-18 guests can not stay in a dorm even accompanied by their parents/guardians. This is only for 1-night of the tour, so we would need to upgrade you here! This upgrade for 1 night would be £75 GBP.

Asked on June 2nd, 2025Is it safe to book my own flights? Can I arrive before the tour starts and leave after it ends?
- The Dragon TripOperator•Written June 2025
We don't include flights in the price of this trip. You would need to arrange these yourself. We can book additional accommodation before and after your trip if needed.

Fiona
Traveler•Written June 2025How do I book additional activities? Will I receive an email with all necessary information? How do I contact the guide?
- The Dragon TripOperator•Written June 2025
Most activities are included. Some activities like Kartoon Karting, Sumo Experience with Lunch, and Tea Ceremony with Geisha need advance booking. You can add these through the booking portal. One month before the trip, we send a booking pack with detailed itinerary and group WhatsApp invite.

Traveler•Written June 2025For free days in Tokyo, do I need to buy a Suica card for the metro or will it be provided?
- The Dragon TripOperator•Written June 2025
You will be given an IC card during the tour with enough money to cover included activities. You can top up if you plan to visit other places during free time.

Asked on May 18th, 2025Will I be able to see cherry blossom in this tour?
- The Dragon TripOperator•Written May 2025
The cherry blossom season is from end of May to mid-April. As long as you're travelling during this time you would be able to see the cherry blossoms. When are you looking to travel to Japan?

Asked on May 8th, 2025I am traveling Solo. I see an option for single accomodation but wanted to confirm what kind of accommodation will it be and if its single accommodation available throughout the trip.
- The Dragon TripOperator•Written May 2025
Standard accommodation within the trip price - Dorm Room. This is shared rooms within hostels, where you can expect rooms of 4-8 beds. In Hakone, all travellers will share gender separated rooms of 3-4 people. Additional fee - Single Room Upgrade allows you to stay in a private room throughout the tour, apart from in Hakone.
- J
Jon
Traveler•Written May 2025Whats the accomodation type in Hakone? The tour detail says, apart from Osaka and Hakone. Is private room available in Osaka?
- The Dragon TripOperator•Written May 2025
We'll use a traditional ryokan with an onsen in Hakone. It will have traditional rooms with tatami beds and 4 people per room. Private room upgrade is available in Osaka too.

Asked on April 22nd, 2025if you look into what the Burning Man community is, music & events that go 24/7 and the camping conditions involved. Staying in hostels where activities can go on until sunrise is not a problem for me as a Burner veteran over 20 years going. I have spent 3 weeks in the Amazon rainforest sleeping on piles of leaves, managed getting the sleep I needed while techno music played in the next camp to mine until sunrise for a week and had to walk 5000 feet on a dirt road to access the porta potty - day/night. Life is all about experience and sharing experiences. It transcends age and I believe that I can relate with any age group because of that. My motto has always been "expect nothing and you won't be disappointed".
- The Dragon TripOperator•Written April 2025
Although we appreciate you're a very active 62 year old, the age recommendation isn't there only for fitness level. We also use it for people to understand the overall dynamic of the trip. The majority of guests that join these trips are in their 20's and 30's. Please also bear in mind that the standard accommodation is shared dorm accommodation for this trip and we can't guarantee you'll have a good nights sleep every night.

Asked on April 18th, 2025What is included in the itinerary?? Is The flight price included????
- The Dragon TripOperator•Written April 2025
We don't include flights in this trip. You will need to book your own flights to and from the Japan. All accommodation is included during the trip. We include all transport during the trip, excluding airport transfers. You will have an amazing adventure leader to help you throughout your journey. The farewell meal and the sushi making class are the included only included meals. It looks like there's still availability for the 2 of you to join the trip departing on the 11th August 2025.

Asked on April 14th, 2025Can you please advise if the traveller is over the age limit but very fit, can they still join the trip? (the traveller is 68 y.o) Can you please also advise the quote for pre and post night? (but in the hotel not hostel)
- The Dragon TripOperator•Written April 2025
We wouldn't be able to accept a guest who's aged 68 onto this trip, however, we might still have availability for them to join our Japan Plus 11-Day Culture Tour: Golden Route & Beyond that departs on the 5th May. This trip uses hotel accommodation as standard and, if they wanted to extend their trip to 13 days, we can add additional pre and/or post trip nights.
