Itinerary
- Day 1
Arrival in Marangu
You'll land at Kilimanjaro Airport and head to your hotel in Marangu by transfer. The afternoon and evening are free to settle in, rest up, and get your gear organized for tomorrow when the actual climbing starts.

First Camp
An early morning departure takes you from Nale Moru village through cultivated fields of maize and potatoes, then into pine forest. As the trees become sparser, you'll reach your first camp at the edge of the moorland zone around 2,600m/8,530 feet, where you can see out across the Kenyan plains.

Second Cave to Kikelewa Caves
After breakfast you keep climbing toward the Second Cave, and from there the views of Kibo and its Eastern ice fields are really something. Later you'll have lunch, then leave the main path to cut across the moorland toward Mawenzi's jagged peaks. By evening you reach camp in a sheltered valley near the Kikelewa Caves, surrounded by giant senecios.

Landmarks Kibo Mawenzi Kikelewa Caves - Day 4
Mawenzi Tarn
Following a solid night's sleep, you tackle a short but demanding climb up grassy slopes. The vegetation drops away as you move higher, and you'll reach Mawenzi Tarn camp positioned right below those towering rocky spires.

Saddle to Kibo Camp
Today takes you across the barren, otherworldly 'Saddle' that sits between Mawenzi and Kibo. You'll arrive at Kibo Camp at the base of the crater wall. The rest of the day is for recovery and mental preparation since tomorrow brings the summit push.

Gillman's Point to Uhuru Peak and Horombo
Before dawn you start your final climb, moving slowly up switchbacks through volcanic scree toward the crater rim. Reaching Gillman's Point, you'll catch the sunrise breaking over Mawenzi and then have the chance to push on to Uhuru Peak for those panoramic views across Kenya and Tanzania. The descent back to Kibo happens quickly, and after a break and some food, you head down to Horombo for your last night.

- Day 7
Final Descent to Marangu Gate
This is your final day on the mountain. You'll trek down to Marangu gate and park headquarters where successful summiteers get their certificates. Your driver will meet you with lunch, and then it's back to the hotel for a hot shower and time to reflect on what you've accomplished.

Departure from Marangu
