- AAliciaSpence· August 12th, 2022I have travelled with Intrepid several times before with no issues but this tour was problematic right from the beginning. The tour itinerary was too rushed (leaving at best 2-3 hours of sunlight to explore places before embarking early the next day); we missed a lot of activities (even the included activities); the itinerary published was really only a “guide” as there was modifications almost on a daily basis; the suppliers used were of poor quality (bordering on dangerous in Mozambique and the transfer to the gates of Kruger National Park); the accomodation was really far away in most places (leaving it impossible to arrange alternative transport to grab food / explore activities in the area as the truck struggled to even get in there with the low hanging trees); upgrades in national parks were not upgrades as a new booking was required (park fees had to be also paid again); tour guide was useless with no information given about activities (only really got time that we had to leave the following next day) and there seemed to be a disconnect between ground staff and the people who decide what the tour should cover (appears that decision-makers have not taken the tour to realise it does not work as advertised). If you book this tour, you will see South Africa 85% of the time by sitting in a truck with only 15% of time given to explore places. As a guide most places listed take a full day of travel (you will be up around 5am every day). Mozambique should be scrapped as it takes several hours to cross the border (corrupt and granting visas take at least 20 mins per person before you can queue to get your passport stamped). Hope this information helps in deciding whether to travel with Intrepid as personally I regretted my decision and would have been better off travelling with Nomads, Acacia, Sunway Safaris or Drifters.Show moreTrip date: July 2022

Asked on March 2nd, 2024Would transfer from airport to hotel (& vice versa) be provided in Johannesburg and Cape Town? Could you send more details on the lodgings in the different places? Specifically the toilet conditions. Would we be required to participate in any way in the camping? Lastly, could I have a sense of the folk who have already registered? Just age/gender would be helpful.
- Intrepid TravelOperator•Written March 2024
Transfers we can arrange with an additional cost. However the transfers are subjected to availability. We do have female clients more than males. and we do have clients in all ages. The hotels we use on this tour would be 4 star hotels.

Traveler•Written March 2024Did you have any info on the facilities/conditions of the different camping grounds? And if we are required to participate during the visit eg cleaning, cooking?
- Intrepid TravelOperator•Written March 2024
Accommodation is mainly in two-person canvas dome tents with camping mattresses supplied. Campsites do have facilities, but usually aren't to the same standard as Western countries. Bathroom facilities can be very basic. By travelling on an Overland trip you will be helping your cook prepare meals for the group. You may also get the chance to help with the shopping. Participating in the camp is usually done on a duty roster system with group of 5 or 6 people having a different camp job each day.

Traveler•Written March 2024How much for the single supplement? Would you be able to send an extra doc listing the programme elements are included in the cost and which are optional, with some sense of cost?
- Intrepid TravelOperator•Written March 2024
You can book a single supplement for USD $575.

Asked on December 31st, 2023Do you permit me to bring my own tent so I can have my own privacy etc on the camping component of the trip?
- Intrepid TravelOperator•Written December 2023
Unfortunately, if you want to stay in your own tent then you should go for the single supplement option. Single supplement is subject to availability.

Asked on March 5th, 2023Can you tell me how this tour connects with Island of Mozambique, Mozambique? I can see it in the plan, but I can't see it in description. How is it organized? Can I book the flights with the tour?
- A
Adrian
Traveler•Written March 2023If I need to take a flight on the 5th day of the trip, from what airport should I search to Island of Mozambique? And on the 7th day, to what airport should I return to meet my group? What time is best to look for flights?
- Intrepid TravelOperator•Written March 2023
This tour does not include the Island of Mozambique. This tour includes Lesotho, South Africa, and Eswatini (Swaziland). We no longer stay in Mozambique on this tour, so it won't be easy to go on their own in the middle of the tour.

Asked on February 20th, 2023Would you know how many pages does South Africa takes to stamp our passport normally since we will do in out of South Africa a few times during the tour? I believe I will do 4 entries and 4 exits.
- Intrepid TravelOperator•Written February 2023
Passport stamps can take two blank pages, which might vary depending on your passport. We recommend checking with the South Africa consulate or embassy.

Asked on October 13th, 2022When you say camping, is it pre-erected tents with beds, or do we have to sleep on the ground and put up our own tents. Would you Match my son up with someone to share, when you only have 2 x persons per room. average age of travellers. Is Wifi available at the accommodations
- Intrepid TravelOperator•Written October 2022
Accommodation on this trip is mainly in two-person canvas dome tents with camping mattresses supplied. You will not have to set up the tents. When we stay in the grounds of a hotel or at a campsite which may also have rooms/cabins available. In this case there may be a choice of camping or upgrading to a room. Rooms cost approximately USD60-120 per room per night for a twin room and cannot be pre-booked. Standards of these rooms vary greatly, and we recommend viewing the room before purchasing the nights' accommodation. The day-by-day itinerary advises when upgrades may be possible (subject to availability). If you are interested in upgrade pricing, please let us know. Yes, if your son chooses to not purchase a single supplement, he would be paired with another solo traveler of the same gender. We also try to pair the same age groups together. As for Wi-Fi, it would be available during your hotel and lodge stays but not during the camping portion. Our trips have quite a large age range so every tour and departure date is different. If you had a specific time in mind, we would be happy to advise on age dynamics.

Asked on December 1st, 2016Is the airfare included in the tour package?
- Intrepid TravelOperator•Written December 2016
TourRadar specialises in giving you the best tours from around the world, however the tours we offer do not include airfare and we do not book or advise on airfare. You will be responsible for booking your flights to meet with the group at the starting city. We do not recommend booking airfare before confirming your tour.
