  2. Day 2

Big Tree to Shira Hut 2

The day involves trekking through rainforest on a small trail as the vegetation gradually changes from dense forest to heath and moorland. After 4 to 5 hours of hiking, you'll cross Shira Ridge and arrive at Shira Camp 1 where lunch happens, giving you time to take in views of Mt Meru and the Rift Valley. Then you continue climbing another 250 m over the next 3 hours before making a gentle descent to Shira Hut 2, which sits near a stream on the Shira Plateau.

  3. Day 3

Shira Hut 2 to Barranco Camp

Today the Lemosho route joins up with the Machame route. You'll hike from Shira Camp 2 toward the beautiful Lava Tower, with plenty of ups and downs along the way that offer nice views. The altitude can make you feel tired or uncomfortable, so you'll spend 1 to 2 hours at Lava Tower for acclimatization and grab lunch there. From there it's a descent down to Barranco Camp where you'll notice striking flowering plants that grow up to five meters high. You reach altitudes over 4,600 m during the day but sleep at a lower elevation to help your body adjust.

  4. Day 4

    Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

After breakfast, you head out from Barranco Camp toward the Barranco Wall, a section many climbers really enjoy because of the views along the way. You descend into the Great Barranco ravine and then climb steeply up the Breakfast Wall, which has some rock climbing involved but nothing too technical. As you continue, you'll pass underneath the Heim and Kersten glaciers while making your way toward Karanga Camp at 4,000 m where you'll spend the night.

You depart Karanga Camp after breakfast and hike to Barafu Summit Camp at 4,640 m, which is where tonight's summit push begins. Your camp setup is already done with tents and sleeping bags ready so you can rest right away. Later, you'll do an acclimatization hike up toward Kosovo Summit Camp at 4,800 m and then head back down to Barafu Camp. A hot dinner gets served, and then it's rest and sleep for the remainder of the day before the night's climb.

  6. Day 6

    Barafu Camp to Millennium Camp

You'll leave Barafu Camp at night and climb toward Uhuru Peak at 5,895 m. While the actual climbing isn't technically hard, the altitude is what challenges most people. One guide stays with every two climbers to keep tabs on how you're doing physically and mentally. Once you reach the summit, you have the choice to descend to the nearest glacier, take photos, and rest briefly before heading back to Barafu Camp by midday where the crew's waiting. From there, you descend to Millennium Camp at 3,000 m and get proper rest with nice views of the plains and Mawenzi peak.

    Included Activities
