Itinerary
- Day 1
Marrakech to Agdz
You'll leave Marrakech early and drive through the High Atlas Mountains, passing through several Berber villages along the way. The route takes you to Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, an 11th-century fortified village and UNESCO site where you can walk around the clay structures and get a sense of traditional Moroccan architecture. After exploring there, you'll continue to Ouarzazate, often called the 'Hollywood of Africa' because of its film studios and production facilities. From there, the drive heads into the Draa Valley, Morocco's longest valley with extensive palm tree oases covering the landscape. You'll arrive in Agdz for dinner and spend the night, giving you time to settle in and experience the local atmosphere.

Agdz to Erg Chegaga
After a traditional breakfast, you'll travel through the Draa Valley heading toward Zagora, stopping to see what remains of an Almoravid fortress. Next you'll check out Tamegroute, which has one of Morocco's oldest libraries if you're interested in history and manuscripts. The route continues to M'hamid on a large plateau, then you reach the sand dunes of Erg Chegaga. You'll do a camel trek across the dunes to catch the sunset and sunrise, then spend the night at a luxury desert camp where you can sleep under the stars and experience the quiet of the desert.

Erg Chegaga
Start with breakfast, then you'll have choices for how to spend your day. Activities include camel rides across the dunes, sandboarding if that appeals to you, and guided walks to explore the landscape. Later in the afternoon, you can have sunset drinks out on the dunes. Dinner features traditional Moroccan food, and the evening winds down around a campfire with local musicians performing traditional music while you look up at the night sky.

Landmarks Erg Chegaga - Day 4
Erg Chegaga to Marrakech
Following breakfast, you'll head west across expansive desert terrain, passing Lake Iriqui along the way, a spot known for mirages and fossils. You'll stop for lunch in Foum Zguid, the first village you encounter after the desert (the name translates to 'mouth,' referring to where the Zguid River originates). From there, you'll travel north on cobbled roads with rock formations visible around you. The route takes you through Taznakht, where Berber rugs and carpets are produced and sold. Then you'll cross the High Atlas Mountains again on your return to Marrakech, arriving in the late afternoon.
