Itinerary
- Day 1
Cartagena
You'll touch down in Cartagena, a UNESCO World Heritage city on Colombia's Caribbean coast. If your flight gets in early, there's time to walk through the Old City and check out the walled town with its local churches, monasteries, and heritage mansions. At 6 pm, you'll meet your group leader for a welcome meeting and orientation walk so you can get your bearings. Later in the evening, grab dinner with the other travelers if you're up for it.

- Day 2
Cartagena to Santa Marta
After breakfast, you'll take a private transfer from Cartagena to Santa Marta, which sits as your entry point to Tayrona National Park. Once you arrive, your leader takes you on a walking tour through downtown Santa Marta, stopping by the Santa Marta Cathedral, Parque de los Novios, and Plaza de Bolivar to pick up some local history and culture. You'll have free time at sunset to wander around on your own, then find a local restaurant for dinner.

- Day 3
Machete Pelao
Starting early, you'll jump into 4WDs for an offroad trek heading into the mountains toward Machete Pelao at about 120 m elevation. After a couple hours of walking, you'll take part in a community tree-planting activity where you get to name your own tree. Lunch comes next, followed by a forest trek with tropical views and mountain scenery all around. You'll reach camp at roughly 450 m altitude by evening, where dinner and your first night under the stars await.

Landmarks Machete Pelao - Day 4
Lost City of Tayrona
Today you're hiking through rainforest on jungle trails with river crossings as you head toward the Lost City of Tayrona (Teyuna), an ancient archaeological site that predates Machu Picchu. You'll cross the roaring Buritaca River and climb over 900 stone steps to reach the first stone rings. Arriving in the afternoon, you'll get a guided tour from local guides who explain the significance of this important Colombian site, and you'll find fewer tourists here at this time of day.

WIWA Community Camp
You'll hike back down to the WIWA Community Camp, crossing rivers again along the way. The rest of your day is yours to rest and recover from the trek. If the weather cooperates, you can swim in natural pools. Later, you'll meet El Mamo, the community's sage and spiritual guide, who shares knowledge about Indigenous ways of living, how roles work within the community, and what the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta means spiritually.

- Day 6
Return to Santa Marta
Your last day in the mountains starts early with a hike back to Machete, taking breaks along the way to soak in views of the Sierra Nevada. From there you continue descending, stop for lunch, then head into your private transfer back to Santa Marta. You'll arrive with a free evening ahead to relax. Consider meeting up with your group for a farewell dinner to wrap up your Lost City adventure.

Santa Marta
After breakfast, your trip ends here. You're free to check out and depart whenever you're ready. If you want to stick around, Santa Marta has beautiful beaches nearby where you can spend extra time before heading out.
