Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Milan to Venice

    You'll start at 8:30 AM with a pickup from Hotel AC SESTO in Milan. The drive takes you through lakeside landscapes toward Lake Garda. In Peschiera del Garda, you can walk the historic streets or take a boat ride if you're interested. After that, head to Verona where you'll see Juliet's Balcony and the ancient Arena, then continue on to Venice for the evening. By the time you arrive, you'll have covered quite a bit of ground.

  2. Day 2

    Venice

    Start with a guided two-hour walking tour covering Venice's main sites and quieter corners. After that, the day opens up and you can do whatever appeals to you. Some people head straight to Piazza San Marco or check out the galleries. A gondola ride along the Grand Canal is popular, or you might just wander the smaller streets and find local spots on your own. It's completely up to you how you spend the afternoon and evening.

    You'll leave Venice and head into wine country in northern Italy. In Valdobbiadene, you'll see the UNESCO-listed vineyards and learn about prosecco production. From there, move to the village of Mel where you can try authentic Venetian food and grab some local gelato. Later you'll arrive in Cortina d'Ampezzo for the evening. The drive gives you a nice transition from the water and canals into the mountain scenery you'll see over the next couple of days.

  4. Day 4

    Cortina d'Ampezzo

    Take a cable car ride up Tofana-Freccia nel Cielo mountain to see the Dolomite views from above. You can hang out on the terrace or do short walks along the mountain trails if that interests you. After lunch, there's a scenic drive through Cortina that takes you to Tre Cime di Lavaredo, where you'll see three distinctive rocky peaks. Then stop at Lake Misurina before heading back to Cortina for a free evening to relax or explore on your own.

    Cortina d'Ampezzo to Trento

    This day takes you deeper into the Dolomites with a cable car up Sass Pordoi to nearly 3,000 metres elevation. From the top, you'll have sweeping views and can take short hikes if you want. Later, head to Val di Fiemme, which is known for its spruce forests, the same wood used by violin makers and other luthiers. End the day in Trento, a Renaissance city where the architecture and Piazza Duomo sit nicely against the Alpine backdrop surrounding it.

  6. Day 6

    Trento to Milan

    You'll leave the Dolomites and head back toward Milan with a few stops along the way. Start by visiting Castello del Buonconsiglio fortress in Trento. Then continue to Bardolino on Lake Garda for a lakeside break. Your final stop is Bergamo, a hilltop city with nice views over the surrounding area. From there, head back to Milan where you should arrive around 7 PM, wrapping up your trip.

    The tour leader Sara was great. Very communicative and nothing was too much trouble. Sara looked after us very well. Local tour guides were generally good except for Rome where he was a bit boring. The biggest issue we have is the Hotel Giosue a Mare in Sorrento. We were very disappointed to stay at a hotel near the water and have a view of a rock wall half a metre from our window. We know other people in our group had balconies and water views. We requested a move to a different room but the rude woman at reception refused. Also, another couple in our group were moved out of their nice room to an inferior room for the third night supposedly because the shower needed repairs but they said the shower worked just fine. I think the hotel staff play favorites. We suggest you drop this hotel from you list.

    This Outlander tour was wonderful. It was booked with Rabbies which was excellent. The group was a group of 15 people which I liked. The bugs driver/ tour guide Lizzie was fantastic. Super sweet and chock full of stories and knowledge. The itinerary and overall organization was good. I felt we did a lot more Outlander heavy stuff on day 1 and day 4 which I loved. In the town of Falkland, we had dinner and further spend much time exploring there and got tons do some photos but that felt a bit rushed and this town I looked forward to see while area small, I wanted to soak in a bit more. We entered all castles with no issues as 99% of them came pre booked or were free to enter with exception of midhope castle. The accommodations provided were both excellent in my opinion. I was very happy where I stayed and had a full Scottish breakfast at both places. During the tour there were plenty of times bathroom breaks and a lunch break. The tour bus was easy to find in Edinburgh with the instructions provided and we were dropped off same location with ease. I highly recommend.
