Itinerary
- Day 1
Lisbon to Madeira
You'll fly through Lisbon and then head to Madeira, arriving at your beachfront accommodation where everything's set up and ready. Your guide Sarah will meet you, and after you've had time to settle in, you'll have dinner together while she fills you in on what the hiking adventures ahead will look like.

- Day 2
Madeira - Machico to Porto da Cruz Hike
This morning you're tackling your first hike on a narrow coastal path that runs between Machico and Porto da Cruz. You'll walk along the levada past terraced fields, making your way up to the dramatic Boca do Risco viewpoint where clifftop views stretch out over the Atlantic. After that, you'll explore Porto da Cruz where you can check out a historic sugar cane factory or take a swim in the natural sea pool if you're interested.

- Day 3
Madeira - Laurisilva Forest Hike
Starting from an abandoned mountain village, you'll head into the Laurisilva, which is Madeira's UNESCO World Heritage laurel forest. Most of your hike follows the historic Levada dos Tornos, one of the island's oldest waterways that carries water from the north down to the south. You'll be walking through lush vegetation with peaceful surroundings the whole way, so it's a nice contrast from some of the other trails.

Madeira - Pico Arieiro to Pico Ruivo High Mountain Hike
A bus takes you up to Pico Arieiro at 1800 meters, and from there you're looking out at views above the clouds. You'll hike the high-altitude trail that connects Pico Arieiro to Pico Ruivo, which is Madeira's highest mountain. The sweeping island vistas and dramatic mountain landscapes rising from the sea of clouds make this one feel pretty different from the lower elevation trails.

Funchal
Today shifts gears as you explore Funchal with Sarah. You'll hit the market, walk through the colorful artists' quarter in the old town, and discover an unusual bookshop. There's also the city garden to check out. Come afternoon, you've got time to yourself to wander around more or just relax at a street café and take things easy.

Madeira - Paul da Serra to Porto Moniz
You'll drive up to the Paul da Serra plateau and hike through green, densely overgrown slopes with views across the landscape. Along the way you'll come across ancient stink laurel trees that have been here since the island was discovered, like something from a fairytale. The hike finishes at Porto Moniz, which is known for its dramatic lava rock formations that create a natural swimming pool you can actually use.

Madeira - South Coast Hike to Fajã dos Padres
Your final hike takes you along the south coast, starting with a steep ascent through the village of Campanario. From there you'll continue along the Levada do Norte, passing through islanders' gardens. You'll descend using a cable car down to Fajã dos Padres sea gardens, where banana, avocado, mango, and other exotic fruits grow organically across sprawling hectares.

Madeira to Lisbon
A transfer gets you to the airport for your final departure. You'll head home via Lisbon, wrapping up your time in Madeira and heading back.
