Itinerary
- Day 1
Lyon
You'll arrive in Lyon and transfer to the Scenic Sapphire, where you can settle into your suite and get comfortable. The afternoon is yours to spend however you like - relax on the Sun Deck taking in views of the city, or wander around the ship and familiarize yourself with it. Since the ship stays docked overnight, you have the option to head into Lyon's dining scene if you're interested in checking out why the city has such a strong food reputation.

Lyon
You'll choose from several options to explore Lyon. You could take a guided tour walking through hidden traboules (those secret passageways) and see the Basilica of Notre Dame de Fourvière, or head to the medieval walled village of Pérouges instead. If you're interested in textiles, there's a silk painting workshop that teaches you about Lyon's 500-year silk history. Cycling to the Tête d'or Park is another choice if you prefer a more active morning. By evening, the ship starts cruising along the Saône River toward Mâcon.

You'll wake up in Mâcon, situated at the edge of Burgundy wine country with its pastel buildings and historic churches. Your Scenic Freechoice options include driving through the rolling Beaujolais vineyards to meet a winemaker, exploring the medieval town of Cluny with its famous Benedictine Abbey, touring the 1606 Château de Cormatin with its gilded rooms and gardens, or visiting an organic goat cheese farm to learn about production and taste local cheese paired with wine.

You'll arrive early in Vienne, a city layered with 2,000 years of history and Roman structures. There's a terraced theatre, a first century temple, ancient baths, and the Vienne Pyramid from the Roman circus to see. You can either take a guided walking tour that focuses on the well-preserved Roman Theatre and other sites, or go on a cycling tour that takes you past the temple, monuments to Emperor Augustus, bath houses, villas, workshops, and Ile Barlet River Island.

Viviers to Avignon
Viviers feels like an open-air museum with narrow, zig-zagging lanes that seem largely unchanged over 1,600 years. You'll pick between a guided walking tour exploring monuments and the Cathedral of St. Vincent, a French Resistance walking tour, or an excursion to Grignan with its dominating castle and Collegiate Church. After lunch, you'll return to the ship and relax as it cruises toward Avignon, the gateway to Provence with its vineyards and lavender fields.

Arles
You'll depart before dawn and arrive in Arles for breakfast. This ancient city founded by Julius Caesar in 56 BC has the largest collection of Roman ruins outside Rome itself, including theatres, baths, and administrative buildings. You can choose a guided walking tour to see the Roman arenas, visit olive farms in the Alpilles region and the medieval city of Les Baux, take an on board painting class inspired by Vincent Van Gogh, or explore lavender fields and herb production at an organic farm (available late June to mid-August typically).
