Itinerary
- Day 1
Kathmandu to Chame
You'll start from Kathmandu early morning on a comfortable tourist bus heading toward Besisahar. After a few hours of driving through the valley, you'll transfer to a shared jeep for the more challenging part of the journey. The road gets narrow and winding as you climb through mountain terrain, passing waterfalls and terraced hillsides. The jeep ride is bumpy but takes you through some really scenic country before you arrive in Chame by late afternoon or evening, sitting at around 2,670m where the real trekking begins.

Chame to Pisang
This morning you'll head out from Chame into dense pine forests, and the trail follows the Marsyangdi River pretty closely. You can see Lamjung Himal and Annapurna II from various points along the way. The path gradually opens up as you go higher, moving from forested sections into wider valleys. By afternoon you'll reach Pisang village around 3,200m, which marks a real shift in the landscape and altitude. The walk takes roughly 5 to 6 hours, and you notice the air getting thinner as the day goes on.

If you take the upper route, you'll pass through Ghyaru and Ngawal for better views of the Annapurna range spread out across the horizon. The trail winds around the mountains with nice views most of the way. By evening you'll arrive in Manang at 3,530m, a town that sits right between lower and higher altitude regions. Spend the night here to let your body adjust to the elevation before continuing higher.

Manang to Thorong Phedi
Today's trek gets steeper as you leave the tree line and climb into yak pasture country with rocky slopes all around. The air feels thinner and the landscape becomes more barren the higher you go. You'll work your way up toward Thorong Phedi, which sits at about 4,450m and serves as your staging point before the big pass. Depending on how you're feeling and what time you arrive, some trekkers continue even higher to Thorong High Camp around 4,800m. This setup means an easier push to the pass the next morning. The walk usually takes 5 to 7 hours depending on your pace and whether you go all the way up to high camp.

You'll start before dawn for the crossing of Thorong La Pass at 5,416m, the highest point of your entire trek. The climb is steep and the air is thin, but reaching the top brings incredible Himalayan views in every direction. After spending time at the summit, you'll descend down the other side toward Muktinath, a sacred pilgrimage site for both Hindu and Buddhist communities. From there you'll drive or ride down to Jomsom for the night. The whole day is long and physically demanding, but you'll feel the accomplishment of crossing one of the world's highest trekking passes.

Jomsom to Kathmandu
Your final day involves either a short flight or a longer drive back to Kathmandu from Jomsom. The flight takes about an hour and gives you aerial views of the mountains you just crossed. If you're driving instead, it's a longer journey but still scenic. Either way, you'll have time to think back on everything you experienced trekking through the Annapurna region over the past week. By evening you'll be back in Kathmandu where you can rest and recover before heading home.
