Manali
You'll arrive at your hotel in Manali this morning. After grabbing lunch, you'll meet the team and spend time getting comfortable with your Royal Enfield Himalayan bike, learning about the mountain roads and local traffic patterns. Later in the evening, there's a briefing session that covers what to expect over the coming days.

- Day 2
Manali to Barot Valley
An early morning ride takes you to Barot Valley, a charming village that dates back to the 1920s during British rule. The route winds through pine forests and small villages with very little traffic, so you'll mostly have the mountains and the road to yourself. After checking into your accommodation, you can freshen up and take a walk around town to get a feel for the place.

Barot Valley to Dharamsala
Another early start means a long day riding through scenic, twisting roads. You'll pass through busier towns like Jogindernagar and Paprola before things quieten down near the tea plantations around Palampur. Once you've settled in and freshened up, head out to explore McLeod Ganj and visit Dharamsala, where you can check out His Holiness the Dalai Lama's residence and monastery if it's open. The local cafes here are worth spending time in.

Dharamsala to Khajjiar
Today's a scenic mountain ride as you travel on the Pahari road, which means you're taking mountain routes instead of highways for a more beautiful journey. Khajjiar, often called the Mini Swiss of India, has a small lake surrounded by towering Deodar trees with crisp mountain air. The setting gives you that feeling of being somewhere quite different from the lowlands.

Khajjiar to Sach Pass Base
Things take a relaxed pace today since the distance isn't as demanding, giving you more time to soak in Khajjiar's surroundings. After Chamba, the roads smooth out with minimal traffic, but then the real climbing starts as you head toward Sach Pass. Along the way you'll pass Gujjar communities returning from summer pastures in the mountains, plus small villages and terraced fields that show how people farm here.

Sach Pass to Killar
After a solid night's rest, you're ready for the epic Sach Pass ride. Your bike gets checked before heading out. The tarmac gives way to dusty but decent roads near Satrundi, and as you climb higher, valley views open up below you. A small shrine to Jot Wali Mata marks the pass itself. The descent to Killar is intense with rocky, muddy, dusty roads and narrow valleys where drops can reach 200 meters.

Killar to Jispa
An early start on one of the world's toughest roads means mostly bull dust and rugged terrain with bare rock on one side and 200m drops on the other. Traffic is sparse, just occasional buses and jeeps. As you near Udaipur, young pine forests start appearing (locals call it Mini Manali). Stop at the 11th-century Mrikula Devi Temple dedicated to Goddess Kali, then continue through Pattan Valley villages to reach Jispa on good roads.

Jispa to Darcha via Shingo La Pass to Zanskar
You'll head out early with document checks at Darcha, then leave the main Manali-Leh Highway for a dusty trail that links Lahoul Valley to Zanskar through Shingo La Pass. This road opened in 2020 and is still being developed, making it a challenging 42km stretch but one that rewards you with incredible landscapes. You'll pass through villages with livestock grazing during summer months.

Landmarks Shingo La Pass - Day 9
Padum and Karsha Monastery
A relaxed morning in Padum, the only real town and administrative center of Zanskar and historically one of two main capitals of the Zanskar Kingdom. The landscape shifts color as daylight moves across it. You'll ride to Karsha Monastery, one of the largest in the region with splendid valley views. The afternoon is yours to walk around Padum's streets and absorb the place.

Padum to Rangdum
A long and beautiful day takes you through extraordinary landscapes and across Penzila Pass at 14,000 feet, the highest motorable pass in this area. This pass closes for 7 to 8 months each winter. You'll see the Drang Drung Glacier (second largest in the region) and summer camps where Zanskar herders stay with their animals. Rangdum sits in the most isolated part of Suru Valley between colorful, glacier-covered Rocky Mountains. The 18th-century Buddhist Monastery here has about 40 resident monks. As you move into Suru Valley, greenery increases and you'll understand why many consider it one of the most beautiful sections of this entire tour.

Rangdum to Lamayuru
Mostly smooth tarmac roads today with scenic views throughout. Stop at Mulbekh to see a beautiful Buddha statue carved into rock and grab chai and snacks. You'll cross Fotu La Pass at 4,108 meters on the way to Lamayuru. The ancient Lamayuru Monastery is one of Ladakh's oldest Tibetan Buddhist sites. Along this stretch you'll also pass Sangam Point where the Zanskar and Indus rivers meet, Magnetic Hill, and Pathar Sahib, a Sikh Temple. Lamayuru has another name, Moonland, because of its unique rocky geography.

Your main task today is getting Inner Line Permits sorted, which are required for further riding in Ladakh. While the paperwork gets processed, you have the freedom to walk around Leh Town and explore on your own.

Leh to Nubra Valley via Khardung La
The journey heads 160 kilometers north to Nubra, where the Shyok River meets the Siachen River creating a large valley between the Ladakh and Karakoram Ranges. You'll ride over the famous Khardung La Pass at 5,602 meters, one of the world's highest motorable passes. After freshening up, visit Diskit Monastery, the oldest and largest Buddhist monastery in Nubra Valley.

- Day 14
Hundar to Pangong
A short ride takes you to Hundar where you can ride double-humped Bactrian camels. After that, retrace those kilometers and ride along the Shyok River toward Pangong with minimal traffic. Some sections involve off-roading and stream crossings. At Tangtse, you'll join the main Leh to Pangong road via Changla La Pass, the world's third highest motorable pass. Depending on the season, you might see Changpa Nomads in their summer camps.

Landmarks Changla La Pass - Day 15
Pangong to Hanle
After breakfast, you'll ride to Hanle via Man, Merak, Tsaga-la, Chushul, and Rezang-la through beautiful high-altitude rain-shadow plains. Hanle sits close to the China border and is known for India's highest Astronomical Observatory, fully automated and operated remotely from Bangalore. If local engineers are available, they can explain how it works. The 17th-century Hanle Monastery is another site worth visiting.

Hanle to Umling La
After breakfast, you'll head toward Umling La, the highest motorable road in the world. The ride is rough and adventurous, but the backdrop of the Ladakh mountain range makes it one of the most memorable experiences of this entire trip. As you climb to the 5,798-meter summit, views open up in every direction. Umling La sits on the ridgeline between Koyul Lungpa and the Indus River near Demchok. After spending time at the pass and having lunch, you'll head back down to Hanle.

After breakfast, you'll leave Hanle behind and head back to Leh, a return journey that's just as thrilling as the ride out. You'll pass through the scenic Chumathang Valley with great views. Take a lunch break in Upshi, then continue riding to Leh, arriving by evening.

Leh to Jispa
After breakfast, head to Jispa via the popular Leh to Manali route that most riders use when traveling between these two cities. The road is good and you'll make solid time. Along the way you'll cross Taglang La at 5,328 meters (the second highest motorable pass) plus three others: Nakeela Pass at 4,740 meters, Lachulung La at 5,050 meters, and Baralacha La at 4,890 meters. With multiple passes and cold weather today, wear extra layers since conditions can shift without warning.

Jispa to Manali
Today's ride is about 3 to 4 hours on good tarmac from Jispa to Manali. Until 2020, this section was one of the toughest stretches, but the opening of the Atal Rohtang Tunnel smoothed everything out. A pleasant, smooth ride all the way to Manali makes for a great way to finish this epic motorbike tour.
