Itinerary
- Day 1
Mumbai
Your hotel pickup gets you to the Gateway of India in the morning, where you'll catch a ferry across the Arabian Sea heading to Elephanta Island. Once there, you'll walk through the ancient rock-cut temples carved into the hillside, with the Shiva temple being the centerpiece of the site. After exploring for a couple hours, the ferry brings you back to the mainland. From there, you'll check out the Gateway of India up close before moving on to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya museum, which has a solid collection of sculptures and paintings if you've got energy for more cultural sites. Later in the afternoon, head over to Dhobi Ghat to see the open-air laundry operations where workers wash clothes using traditional methods, then swing by the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus railway station to see the colonial architecture before your return to the hotel.
