  Had high hopes & excitement for this experience with Haka however it turned into a bad one. Tried to discuss some things with my guide & the office ops manager thinking I would get a little bit of concern .. no customer service & care .. but no! anyway I would not recommend you book with them. To explain more some of the things that annoyed me & made me regret my booking are: The Itinerary is not inline with the trip! The Cultural aspect (including guides) is now lost with this company! (having sold themselves to Intrepid) The cost of these trips include very little. eg: only breakfast is included not at least a dinner or 2! and the whole tour is primarily focused on just extra paid activities, so factor all this in on top of daily food, drinks, flights, insurance etc. ‘lodge stay?’ some… then 2 star backpackers! Private room upgrade yes .. for a huge extra cost & with no en-suite. I could add more but instead I recommend you booking with someone else!

  this tour was just a huge disappointment, this is overpriced, unorganized and leaves you sorry for all the money you spent. of course the sights you will see are amazing, but the tour itself just makes you sad. the guide had absolutely no plan at anytime what was going on, due to this lack of organization, it was always quite hectic rushing from one place to the next. also I made bookings for activities back when I booked the tour itself months in advance, just to realize once I was at the activity it was not prebooked. here it’s advertised as 18-39, which was actually not true, more like an average of 45+. the hostels are not high-end, they are just normal average youth hostels. I did reach out to them on the second day, explaining the circumstances, but sadly did not receive a very constructive answer and no resulting action. honestly, I‘m just mad.

  We unfortunately had awful weather which meant many of the activities could not go ahead. However, George, our tour guide, worked so hard to fit in many of the activities, including driving us back up to hobbiton. A very well organised and resiliant team at Haka prevented our trip from being a right off. Would go with them again.

  Had a fantastic time! There are so many extra activities to choose from. Unfortunately, the weather didn’t cooperate the entire time so some activities were cancelled. Not much that can be done about that. The Māori cultural stay was probably my favourite stop. So much fun and learnt to much. Also shout out to Cal our guide who was great!

  Brilliant company with a very personal approach to guiding, effectively becoming one of the group most of the time. The small group size and mostly solo travellers means that a group of strangers leave as close friends after the trip. It clear that Haka have great values, with bolt on activities sometimes costing less than the walk in price and with their support and appreciation of the Mauri community. Highly recommended, just wish I had booked to stay longer. Thanks Kenna and Haka Tours.

  Definitely do it! The hostels can be harsh and things might not be always 100% organised but you get to experience NZ in such a unique way that makes it all worthwhile.

  Do it. 14 out of 16 were solo travelers and we all got along great. Most were in their 20s, some in 30s and 40s, 2 were in the 50s and the couple were 65 and we all became friends. The younger ones liked to play music (on the bus) more than the older ones but the leader/driver was very good at keeping a nice balance. It was very relaxing and you could easily spend time with others or go off alone if you needed space.

  A really great tour to introduce you to the North Island. Perfect to see as much as possible in 7 days. We really enjoyed all of the activity options and freedom to pick and choose what you like.
