You'll arrive in Washington, D.C. and check into your hotel to get settled. The rest of your day is yours to explore the city at whatever pace feels right. Walk around and see some of America's historical landmarks and museums on your own, getting a feel for the capital before your guided activities begin.

Washington, D.C.
Start the morning with a guided tour through the U.S. Capitol Visitor Center to learn about how Congress works. From there you'll head out to see major sites like the White House, the National Mall, and the war memorials scattered throughout the city. Later in the evening, you'll gather with your fellow travelers for a welcome dinner to kick things off.

Washington, D.C.
Head to the Washington National Cathedral in the morning to walk through this architectural landmark. In the afternoon you have a choice: join a walking tour that covers the Lincoln Assassination story, or check out the International Spy Museum if that interests you more. After dinner you'll experience the memorials at twilight, visiting the Jefferson, Martin Luther King Jr., and Lincoln Memorials when the lighting is particularly nice.

Old Town Alexandria - Mount Vernon
Begin with a narrated tour of Arlington National Cemetery where you'll see the Tomb of the Unknowns and the Kennedy gravesites. Later you'll drive to Old Town Alexandria to walk the cobblestone streets along the Potomac and grab lunch there. Then it's on to Mount Vernon for a tour of George Washington's home, time to wander the grounds and gardens, and a visit to the tomb where Washington and Martha are buried. The evening is free so you can find dinner wherever you'd like.

You'll start at a local bakery that's run by a non-profit supporting veterans and their families. After that, head to the White House Visitor Center to see artifacts from the White House collection. Spend your afternoon checking out any of the 10+ Smithsonian museums around the National Mall at your own pace. Return to the hotel via metro with your tour manager, then gather for a farewell dinner to wrap up your historical tour of the city.
