- Day 1
Porto to Baiona
You'll land at Porto Airport and connect with your Pedalquest Tours guide, then transfer south to Baiona in Galicia where you're staying at the Parador de Baiona Hotel. After checking in and getting settled, there's time to walk around this port city and get a feel for the place. The historic centre has character, and if you want to head out, Monterreal Fort with its Prince's Tower is worth seeing. Grab dinner at the hotel and rest up before cycling starts tomorrow.

Baiona to Caminha
Your cycling begins along the Atlantic coast with mountains creating a nice backdrop throughout the ride. You'll cycle across Serra da Grova and Serra de Argalo, then take a boat across the Minho River to reach Caminha. This town is one of Portugal's oldest, and you'll have time to walk around and see the manor houses that tell stories going back to pre-Roman times.

Caminha to Ponte de Lima
The route takes you through Viana do Castelo, a town with real historical significance tied to the Age of Discoveries and its shipbuilding past. You'll visit the Byzantine Church of Santa Luzia, which sits on a mountain, and the climb up gives you panoramic views across the region. Later, you'll head inland along the River Lima toward Ponte de Lima, a Roman-era town with a famous 24-arch bridge that pilgrims used when traveling to Santiago de Compostela.

Ponte de Lima to Sabrosa
A transfer takes you to Sabrosa, where you'll spend the day walking through old streets and country lanes. Vineyards and pine trees cover the landscape here, and you'll visit quintas, which are the wine estates that make this region work. Many have been restored nicely and let visitors see how the Douro wine region operates day to day.

Sabrosa
You're in the Alto Douro wine region now, where carved terraces on steep slopes create one of the world's most recognized wine areas. There's time to learn how Port wine gets made, plus information about the award-winning red wines like Touriga. You'll visit a local producer for olive oil tasting and have a picnic, so you can taste the flavours that come from these hillsides and landscapes.

Sabrosa to Régua
Cycling today is gentler as the route flattens out, and the River Douro stays with you the whole way. You'll pass quintas and vineyards, then reach Alijó, a town founded in 1226 with signs of even older settlements. Keep going to Pinhão and check out the railway station from the late 1800s, which has hand-painted tiles showing regional life. The N222 road is known as one of Portugal's nicest drives, and you'll follow it into Régua, the heart of the Douro wine region.

This walking day starts from one of the region's best viewpoints and combines natural landscapes with traditional farming areas. You'll see families growing olives, almonds, grapes, and vegetables using methods that have worked for generations. Depending on the season, you might see almond blossoms in February and March or olive harvests in November and December. The walk ends in a community village where local traditions are still part of daily life.
