Itinerary
- Day 1
Moshi to Machame Camp
Your driver picks you up from the hotel in Moshi and takes you to Machame Gate, where the climb officially starts. From there, you'll hike up through thick forest toward Machame Camp. The trail winds through lush vegetation and you're gaining elevation but it's still relatively gradual at this point. By evening you'll reach camp and settle in for your first night on the mountain.

Machame Camp to Shira 2 Camp
After breakfast at camp, you head out from Machame Camp toward Shira 2 Camp. The hike takes you through different vegetation zones as you continue climbing higher. You'll notice the landscape changing as the forest starts to thin out. The trek is moderate but the altitude is starting to affect how you feel, so your guide will keep the pace manageable.

Shira 2 Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp
This morning you trek from Shira 2 Camp up to Lava Tower, then turn around and descend down to Barranco Camp for the night. It's designed as an acclimatization day, meaning you go up high during the day but sleep lower, which helps your body adjust to the thin air. The terrain becomes more rocky as you approach Lava Tower, then you get relief on the way back down.

Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
Starting from Barranco Camp, you continue the push upward toward Karanga Camp. The terrain gets tougher here with steeper sections and less stable ground. Your legs will feel the challenge more than the previous days. By afternoon you reach Karanga Camp and the guides give you time to rest, hydrate, and prepare for the final push ahead.

Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
You climb from Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp today, your last stop before attempting the summit. The air gets noticeably thinner and the landscape is mostly bare rock and scree. Once at Barafu Camp, there's not much to do except eat an early dinner and try to sleep. You'll need rest because the real challenge comes in just a few hours.

Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
Around midnight, your guide wakes you up and you start the summit push in darkness. The hike to Uhuru Peak, the highest point on Kilimanjaro at 19,341 feet/5,895 meters, takes about 5 to 7 hours depending on your pace. It's slow and steady going, with the thin air making every step feel harder. When you reach the summit and see the sunrise, the exhaustion feels worth it. After time at the top, you begin the long descent down to Mweka Camp where you'll finally get real sleep.

Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
The final day brings you from Mweka Camp down to Mweka Gate where your trek ends. The hike is mostly downhill and takes about 3 to 4 hours. Your legs might be sore but the relief of finishing carries you through. At the gate you'll get your certificate, collect your gear, and head back to Moshi where a vehicle is waiting to return you to your hotel.
