Marangu Gate
Your Mount Kilimanjaro trek starts at Marangu Gate, where you'll begin walking through dense rainforest. The path winds upward through lush vegetation as you head toward Mandara Hut, your first stop for the night. Expect the terrain to be wet and muddy in places, and you'll notice the air getting cooler as elevation increases.

Mandara Hut
From Mandara Hut, the trek continues toward Horombo Hut through moorland terrain. As you climb higher, the dense forest gradually opens up and vegetation shifts to low shrubs and grasses. You'll feel the altitude change more noticeably now, and the views start opening up around you.

Landmarks Mandara Hut - Day 3
Horombo Hut
The journey from Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut takes you into alpine desert zone. Vegetation becomes sparse and rocky as the landscape transforms into barren terrain. By the time you reach Kibo Hut, you're at around 15,430 feet/4,700 meters, and the air is noticeably thinner.

Kibo Hut
Today is about resting and preparing your body at Kibo Hut. You'll spend time acclimatizing to the high altitude before the summit push, staying hydrated and eating well. Most of the day involves staying in camp, organizing gear, and getting sleep before the early wake-up.

Uhuru Peak
Your summit attempt starts in the darkness around midnight from Kibo Hut. The night trek toward Uhuru Peak takes roughly 5 to 7 hours of steady climbing. After reaching the 5,895-meter/19,341-foot summit of Africa's highest point, you'll descend back down to Horombo Hut, a long day that tests your endurance.

- Day 6
Marangu Gate
The final descent heads from Horombo Hut back down through rainforest to Marangu Gate. The trail winds downward through the vegetation you saw on day one, and you'll exit the national park by afternoon. Your trek concludes after roughly 5 to 6 days of trekking, and you can reflect on completing Africa's tallest peak.
