You'll get picked up when you arrive in Madrid and head to your hotel. After settling in, the rest of the day is open so you can either kick back or start poking around the city on your own terms.

Madrid
Following breakfast, a guided tour walks you through Madrid's different eras from medieval times through the Habsburg period and into the Bourbon era, ending with stops at modern spots like the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium. By afternoon, you're free to relax or continue checking out the city.

Madrid to Salamanca to Porto
You'll travel to Salamanca, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and have time to walk around its golden sandstone buildings, the Plaza Mayor, and Cathedral. After that, you cross into Portugal through some scenic country before arriving in Porto.

Porto
A guided tour takes you through Porto's main spots including the Cathedral, Stock Exchange building, and Santa Clara Church. Then you'll get on a Douro River cruise followed by a visit to the Port Wine Cellars where you'll taste some local wines. The afternoon gives you space to explore or rest.

Porto to Coimbra to Fátima
After breakfast, you head to Coimbra, known for one of Europe's oldest universities and as the birthplace of Fado music, where you'll have time to walk around. Later, you continue to Fátima, a major pilgrimage destination, to see the Basilica, Cova da Iria, and the Chapel of the Apparitions. If you're interested, there's a candle procession in the evening.

Fátima to Batalha to Nazaré to Alcobaça to Lisbon
You'll see the Batalha Monastery, a UNESCO site known for its Gothic and Manueline style. Then it's on to Nazaré, a fishing village where you can explore the beach and grab some local seafood. Next comes Alcobaca, another UNESCO location with a 12th-century Gothic church and Cistercian monastery. The day ends when you arrive in Lisbon.

That afternoon, you can wander through Alfama's narrow streets, sit at a café, or optionally take an excursion to the UNESCO sites of Sintra and Cascais.

You'll travel to Mérida in Spain's Extremadura region, a UNESCO site where you can see well-preserved Roman remains like the theatre, amphitheatre, and Roman bridge. You'll have free time to walk around before heading to Córdoba, which was once the capital of the Caliphate.

After breakfast, a tour takes you through Córdoba's famous Mosque, which combines Islamic and Christian architectural styles. Then you'll walk the narrow alleys of the Jewish Quarter before driving about 2 hours to Seville, where you'll get your first look at this Andalusian city.

Seville

The afternoon is yours to explore, try local food, or just take in the city's energy. There's an optional Flamenco show in the evening.

Seville to Granada
Heading east through the heart of Andalusia along an old Caliphate road, you'll pass through landscapes filled with olive trees. In Granada, you'll see the Alhambra complex, a palace and fortress that's world-famous. After that, you'll walk through the quiet Generalife Gardens, which inspired Washington Irving's 'Tales of the Alhambra.' An optional evening Flamenco Zambra show is available.

Granada to Valencia
Traveling eastward toward Valencia, one of the Mediterranean's main capitals, you'll check out the striking modern City of Arts and Sciences complex with its six distinct buildings. You'll also learn about Valencia's role as the birthplace of paella.

A guided tour of Valencia covers the historic old city and the City of Arts and Sciences complex. In early afternoon, you head north along the Mediterranean coast, passing through Tarragona (an ancient Roman city) before reaching Barcelona, famous for architect Gaudí.

A stop at Montjuïc Park gives you city views, the Olympic Ring, and the Columbus monument. The afternoon is free to explore, enjoy food, or relax.

You'll head southwest through industrial and agricultural areas toward Zaragoza, the capital of Aragón on the Ebro River. There you'll see the impressive Baroque Basilica-Temple of Our Lady of Pilar, one of Spain's most recognizable landmarks, and have free time to walk around and check out other historical places. Then you continue back to Madrid.
