Arrival at Kansai International Airport

Kyoto and Nara
Head to Fushimi Inari Shrine early to walk through the thousands of vermilion torii gates before crowds arrive. From there, travel to Nara Park where deer roam freely around the grounds. Spend the afternoon at Todaiji Temple, then check out Kasuga Taisha shrine before heading back.

Kanazawa
Take two bullet train rides to reach Kanazawa. Once there, walk through Kenrokuen Garden, one of Japan's three most beautiful landscape gardens. In the afternoon, wander the Higashi Chaya District with its old geisha houses, and grab that unique gold leaf ice cream everyone talks about.

Takayama and Shirakawa-go
Visit the UNESCO World Heritage villages of Shirakawa-go and Gokayama to see gassho-zukuri farmhouses that are over 250 years old. Stop at Takayama Jinya government office to tour the complex and its museum. By late afternoon, walk through Omicho Market with its 200 shops selling fresh seafood and local produce.

Mount Fuji and Kawaguchiko
An English-speaking guide takes you by private car to Lake Kawaguchiko. Get on a boat to see Mount Fuji from the water, then head to Arakurayama Sengen Park for the famous views of Mount Fuji (cherry blossoms and the five-storied pagoda make it particularly nice during spring).
