Itinerary
- Day 1
Muscat to Jebel Shams
Start early from Muscat heading into the Western Hajar mountains for a full day of hiking and exploration. You'll wander through Misfah Al Abriyeen, an old village with narrow alleyways and the terraced farms that have been there for centuries. From there, check out the Persian ruins at Ghul, then make your way up to Jebel Shams, which sits at 9,991 feet and is Oman's tallest peak. After grabbing lunch with views stretching across the mountain range, you'll tackle the Balcony Walk, a challenging hike that runs along Wadi Ghul's steep cliffs and offers incredible perspective of the landscape below. The drive back to Muscat takes a couple hours, so you'll be heading into the city as evening settles in.
