Itinerary
- Day 1
San Salvador
You'll arrive in San Salvador and get transferred to your hotel in the city. This is your first night, so you'll have time to settle in and get oriented to the capital.

- Day 2
Cerro Verde National Park
After breakfast, head out to Joya de Cerén, a UNESCO World Heritage site known as the Salvadoran Pompeii where volcanic ash preserved a 6th-century farming community from the Mesoamerican period. From there, continue on to Cerro Verde National Park.

- Day 3
Ruta de las Flores
After breakfast, you'll drive along the Ruta de las Flores, which takes you through some really nice scenery. You'll stop at Lago Coatepeque and pass through Santa Ana and coffee plantations before reaching Ataco. Along the route, you'll see the colonial towns of Nahuizalco and Apaneca.

Santa Teresa Hot Springs
Today's a day trip to Santa Teresa hot springs near Ahuachapán on the edge of the Apaneca Mountains. Spend time in 30 natural thermal pools, try hiking trails, and swim in a blue pond. Spa services like mud treatments and massages are available if you want them. Head back to Ataco by late afternoon.

El Salvador to Antigua, Guatemala
Drive toward the Guatemala border, stopping at Tazumal, the most important and well-preserved Mayan ruins in El Salvador. Cross over and continue to Antigua, the colonial town, arriving in the late afternoon.

Antigua
Spend the day exploring Antigua, a UNESCO World Heritage former capital. Check out the Capuchinas monastery, the cathedral, churches like San Francisco and La Merced, and the main square. Head up to Cerro de la Cruz for views of the surrounding volcanoes and town below.

Cobán
Following breakfast, you have a long drive ahead to Cobán. Depending on when you arrive, you'll have a chance to walk around and explore the surrounding area. If you're lucky, you might spot a quetzal during your time there.

Semuc Champey
Take a 4x4 vehicle to Monumento Nacional Semuc Champey nature reserve. You can swim in the turquoise pools fed by the Rio Cahabon or stay above and take in the views of the natural pools from the top.

Tikal
Visit Tikal, one of the most significant Mayan sites that thrived between 250 and 900 AD. Walk among towering pyramids rising above the rainforest canopy with their intricate architecture and mysterious presence.

Flores to Río Dulce
After breakfast, journey to Río Dulce at the mouth of the river where it meets Lake Izabal. Once you arrive, take a short boat tour on the river.

Río Dulce to Copán Ruinas, Honduras
Head toward the Honduras border. Stop at Castillo de San Felipe de Lara in Río Dulce, then visit the Mayan ruins of Quirigua to see unusually tall stelae. Cross into Honduras and drive to Copán Ruinas.

Copán Archaeological Park
Explore the Copán archaeological park including the main ruins and Sepulturas tombs. See the famous staircase with 63 steps containing over 2,500 hieroglyphs, which is the longest Mayan text ever recorded. Optional afternoon excursions are available if you want more.
