Itinerary
- Day 1
Arrival in Rome
You'll get transferred to your hotel and have time to settle in. Stop by the reception desk in the afternoon to check the information boards there, which have all the details about when your tour officially starts.
- Day 2
Rome
A three-hour guided tour takes you through Rome using both walking sections and a panoramic bus. You'll see the Arch of Constantine, Colosseum exterior, Imperial Forums, Circus Maximus, Baths of Caracalla, Basilica of Saint Mary Major, Pyramid of Cestius, and Castel Sant'Angelo, finishing up around 11:00 a.m. at Vatican City. Later that afternoon a transfer brings you to Trastevere for dinner, heading back around 8:30 p.m.

Rome
You have the full day to see Rome on your own schedule. Wander through the historic streets at your own pace, find hidden corners, and just soak in what the city has to offer.

- Day 4
Rome to Siena
You'll travel through Umbria starting with Orvieto, a medieval city sitting high on a flat summit. After checking out the views, take escalators up to explore the medieval center and its Gothic cathedral. Next stop is Castiglione del Lago on Lake Trasimeno where you'll stroll around and grab lunch. From there it's on to Siena in Tuscany, where you'll spend the afternoon walking through Piazza del Campo and seeing the Duomo.

Siena to Florence
Leave Siena this morning and stop in Monteriggione, a medieval village where you can walk the cobbled streets and check out the ancient walls surrounding the town. From there, continue to San Gimignano, which you'll recognize by its distinctive tall medieval towers rising above the landscape. After grabbing lunch, head to Florence and arrive in the early afternoon, giving you time to get settled and maybe wander around your neighborhood before evening.

Florence
Begin at the Michelangelo viewpoint for views of the city, then walk into the historic center for a guided tour. You'll see the Gothic Cathedral, the Ponte Vecchio with its goldsmith shops, and Piazza della Signoria, where Florence's politics happened. After that tour ends you have free time to explore on your own.

Florence to Genoa
Travel to Pisa where a tourist train takes you to Piazza dei Miracoli and the famous Leaning Tower. Then continue to the Ligurian Riviera and Cinque Terre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site made up of five small villages that are quite isolated by road. Train tickets come included with your tour. You'll arrive by regular commuter train to one of the towns (usually Vernazzo, or Manarola/Corniglia depending on how busy the day is) with time to eat lunch. After that, take a train to Levanto and then a bus to Genoa where you'll have free time in the city center.

Genoa to Milan
You'll head to Santa Margherita Ligure (or Rapallo from May 30 through November 2) and board a boat to Portofino, one of Europe's most exclusive spots. Enjoy leisure time walking around by the water. After lunch, continue on to Milan where you have free time to explore. Check out the Gothic cathedral in Piazza del Duomo and the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II.

Milan to Verona
Explore the Italian Lakes region starting at Lake Orta in the well-preserved medieval city of Orta San Giulio. Take a train to the medieval center, then a boat to the Island of San Giulio with its monastery. From there travel to Lake Maggiore and stop in Stresa where you can optionally visit the Borromean Islands, including Isola Bella with its baroque palace and gardens (closed in winter). After lunch you'll head to Verona.

Verona to Venice
Spend time exploring Verona before heading to Venice, arriving around 1:00 p.m. A boat trip to St. Mark's Square is included along with a guided walking tour of Venice. You'll see Murano glasswork during the tour, then have free time to do what you'd like, including an optional gondola ride if you want. You'll stay in the Mestre district.

Venice to Perugia
Leave Venice for Padua, a famous pilgrimage destination where you'll visit the Saint's Basilica. Continue to the Adriatic coast and San Marino, an independent country on top of a fortified mountain. After lunch you'll cross through the Apennines and head to Gubbio, a well-preserved town with the Palace of Consuls and a 12th-century cathedral. You'll arrive in Perugia later that day.

Perugia to Naples
Start with a panoramic tour of Perugia, the historic city known for chocolate production. You'll go up via moving walkways crossing the rocky outcrop and explore its medieval underground city with stone-paved streets and squares. Then head to Assisi for lunch and a visit to the Basilica of St. Francis. In the afternoon continue south toward Naples (sometimes stopping in Rome to drop off other passengers), arriving in the evening.

Naples to Rome
Take a ferry to Capri after a 45-minute crossing and spend time on this island known for natural beauty and luxury. You can optionally take a boat to the Grotta Bianca or ride the cable car to Capri town and see the Gardens of Augustus for panoramic views. Return to Naples for a walk and lunch. In the afternoon visit Pompeii (admission and guided tour included), the city that was buried under ash when Mount Vesuvius erupted in 79 AD. Later travel to Rome, arriving at the end of the day.
