Itinerary
- Day 1
Anchorage to Girdwood
You'll leave Anchorage early and drive along Turnagain Arm toward Girdwood, taking in the coastal scenery as you head to the trailhead. The hike climbs steeply upward, gaining nearly 2,300 feet over 3.5 miles to reach a mountain pass where the Chugach Range spreads out in front of you. Alpine lakes and glaciers come into view, and you'll stop for a picnic lunch to take it all in. After eating, you head back down the trail to set up camp for your first night.

- Day 2
Eagle River Valley
After a hot breakfast to start the day, you hike down into Eagle River Valley, moving through willows and berry bushes while keeping an eye out for wildlife. You'll cross a few small creeks as you make your way down, then stop for lunch along the rivershore where you'll get instruction on how to safely cross rivers. The main challenge comes next, tackling the largest ford at around 150 to 200 feet across. From there, you continue down the valley, eventually reaching camp near a waterfall.

- Day 3
Eagle River to Anchorage
Your final morning starts with breakfast, then breaking down camp. You'll hike along Eagle River through high willows, and after some time on the trail, stop for a snack at The Perch where the valley views are really something. The trail becomes more maintained as you continue toward Eagle River Nature Center. From there, you catch a scenic shuttle drive back to Anchorage to wrap up your trip.
