  1. Day 1

    Heraklion

    You'll arrive at Heraklion Airport at 4:00pm where your tour leader meets you in the arrivals hall. From there, it's about an hour's drive to Zaros in the Idi Mountains. After checking into your hotel, there's an optional welcome meeting and group meal if you're up for it after travel.

  2. Day 2

    Zaros

    Start with a countryside walk to Ag. Charalabos church and see the ancient Moroni olive tree. Then you'll head to Kamihis Farm for hands-on farming, feeding animals, picking fruit, and learning how they make cheese. Lunch is organic vegetarian. The afternoon is yours to relax by the lake or pool.

    Zaros to Chania

    Visit a traditional Cretan honey farm run by the Koutantos family and taste different honey varieties. Later you'll drive to Maravel Garden in Spili to walk through over 300 medicinal and aromatic plants and try fresh local yoghurt. Stop in Spili village for lunch with authentic Cretan gyros before heading back with nice countryside views.

    Chania to Athens (Ferry Overnight)

    A guided walk through the local market lets you explore traditional Cretan products and chat with vendors. Grab lunch at a local place on your own. Then visit Biolea Olive Press to learn about artisan organic olive oil production and taste samples. Head to Souda Bay for seafood dinner with sea views. That evening you'll board the overnight ferry to Athens, sleeping in two-berth cabins for about 8.5 hours.

    Athens

    You'll arrive in Piraeus port and have traditional Greek breakfast with koulouri (sesame bread), a hot drink, and juice at a local cafe. Drop your bags at the hotel, then explore Athens with your tour leader. Visit the Acropolis with included entry and spend time wandering at your own pace. The rest of the day is free to check out Plaka, Syntagma Square, or find cafes and shops.

Then it's about a 1 km walk to Soybird in Koukaki for a hands-on vegan cooking lesson making classic Greek dishes like dolmades. Lunch features what you prepared and you'll get a digital recipe book. Free afternoon and evening to explore.

    Athens to Poros

    Short drive to the ferry port, then a ferry or catamaran ride to Poros (roughly 1 hour 45 minutes) with nice views of the Saronic Gulf islands. After dropping bags at your hotel, you'll take a guided 2-hour walk around the Poros Peninsula seeing Russian naval base ruins and the Sanctuary of Poseidon. Learn about the island's green initiatives. End with traditional Greek dinner at a taverna in Askeli with local hosts Rick and Katerina.

You'll build confidence preparing authentic Greek meals at home.

Spend roughly 1.5 hours exploring independently and learning about its incredible acoustics and the historic Asklepieion healing centre. Drive to the charming seaport town of Nafplion for free time and lunch. Visit Karonis Ouzo Factory for a tour, small museum, and tasting of ouzo, tsipouro, masticha, and cherry liqueur. Buy products if you'd like before returning.

    Poros to Athens Airport

    Travel back to Athens with a stop at Palivos Winery in the historic Nemea region, which has over 3,500 years of winemaking history. Take a guided vineyard walk, visit the aging cellar, and taste wines. There's a lunch stop (your cost) before the final 1.5-hour drive to Athens International Airport. The tour ends at 2:15pm.

    Most of the group did both the southern and northern trips and would recommend this. The flowers, both wild and domestic, were abundant in mid-May, enhancing the already impressive and varied scenery. Our guide, Spiros, was super--totally informed about the island and excellent in accomodating each individual member of the group.
