  1. Day 1

    Provence to Lyon

    Start in Arles and walk through the Roman and medieval sites that fill this UNESCO World Heritage city. From there, head to the medieval village of Les Baux where you'll find an underground art show carved into the hillside. Later, travel to Avignon and spend time near the Palais des Papes, strolling the historic streets. In the evening, continue to Lyon and settle into the old town area, then ride the cable car up to Notre-Dame de Fourvière basilica for views across the city.

  2. Day 2

    Lyon to Dijon

    Leave Lyon and head into the Burgundy wine region. Stop at Tournus to see its impressive stone gate and abbey, then continue to Beaune where you'll have lunch and time to explore this wine capital on foot. Afterward, visit Savigny Castle, which holds unique collections of bikes, cars, planes, and helicopters. The day ends in Dijon as you check out the medieval and Renaissance architecture that defines this Burgundy capital.

  3. Day 3

    Burgundy to Alsace

    Travel from Burgundy toward Alsace by first stopping at Besançon to see its Roman heritage and the 17th-century citadel. Then head to Colmar and walk through the colorful half-timbered houses along the canals, grabbing lunch during your time there. Next, drive to Riquewihr, a medieval town with cobblestone streets perfect for wandering. Visit a winery for local wine tasting and try some regional sweets. You'll arrive in Strasbourg as evening falls.

  4. Day 4

    Alsace to Champagne to Paris

    Begin in Strasbourg with a boat trip through the canals of Petite France, then explore the medieval streets and visit the Gothic cathedral. After that, travel to the Champagne region for a guided tour and tasting session at a traditional cellar. You'll make a quick stop in Épernay to check out its wineries, then continue on to Paris, arriving in the evening.
