Arrival in Montenegro
Arrival in Montenegro sets things in motion. You'll touch down at either Podgorica or Tivat airport, then get transferred to your hotel in Petrovac or Bar. If you're renting a car, you'll handle the pickup and drive yourself to your base. Either way, you're settled in by evening and ready to start exploring.

- Day 2
Bar to Kolasin
The journey from Bar to Kolasin takes you through dramatic mountain landscape, either by scenic train or rental car. Once there, a local guide takes you into the mountains by off-road vehicle to reach a traditional farm. You'll have a picnic featuring homemade cheese, fresh bread, and juice before heading back down to Kolasin by mid-afternoon.

Biogradska Gora National Park
Today focuses on Biogradska Gora National Park and its primeval forest. You'll walk around Lake Biogradsko Jezero, the largest of six glacial lakes in the area, and keep an eye out for imperial eagles, wolves, and plants found nowhere else. If you have energy left, there are additional hikes available. Head back to Kolasin in the afternoon.

Kolasin to Zabljak via Tara Gorge
Driving from Kolasin to Zabljak means passing through Tara Gorge, Europe's longest and deepest gorge. Stop at Tara Bridge for photos and possibly a picnic. Arrive in Zabljak in the afternoon for a walk around Black Lake (the largest of 18 glacial lakes in the area), then grab a drink at a local pub before settling in for the night.

Durmitor National Park
You have the day to yourself in Durmitor National Park. Nearly 50 peaks over 2,000 meters, close to 20 lakes, Tara Gorge, and hundreds of springs are all waiting. Guided travelers can have their tour guide join them, while self-drivers go at their own pace. Swimming in Black Lake is an option if the weather cooperates.

Zabljak to Coastal Hotels via Cetinje and Njegushi
Head back toward the coast through winding mountain roads. An optional early stop takes you to Ostrog Monastery, carved dramatically into steep cliffs. Later you'll reach Cetinje to see former royal palaces (now functioning as museums) and embassy buildings. Stop in Njegushi for regional ham and cheese tasting before finishing at coastal hotels in Bar.

No scheduled activities today, so you can relax or pursue optional interests. Swimming in the sea is available, or try canoeing on Lake Shkodra through Virpazar. There's also a beautiful 19th-century route through the Bay of Kotor with an optional ferry crossing. Self-drivers might hike in the Orjen Mountains instead.

Bay of Kotor Excursion
The northern shore of Bay of Kotor gets your attention today, starting in Kotor with its UNESCO-listed Venetian walls and old town. You'll see St. Triphun's Cathedral and the market, then boat out to Gospa Island from nearby Perast. Risan shows off 2nd-century Roman mosaics, and Budva (around 2,500 years old) rounds out the stops before returning to Bar.

Ulcinj
Traveling southeast along the coast takes you to Ulcinj on the Albanian border. The guided tour includes the Archaeological Museum and a walk through the old town with a stop for Montenegrin wine tasting (Vranac red wine especially). Self-drivers explore the bazaar, market, and 13-kilometer sandy beach on their own, taking in views of the Bojana River mouth before heading back.
