Overnight Flight to Windhoek
Your Namibia adventure starts with an overnight flight to Windhoek. You can set this up as a self-drive trip in a rental car or hire a German-speaking driver-guide to handle the roads for you.

- Day 2
Windhoek
You'll land at Windhoek International Airport, grab your rental car, and drive to your guesthouse. The colonial city center has German-style buildings and street cafés to explore at your own pace, or you can join a guided tour of sites like Alte Feste, Christ Church, and the Independence Museum.

Windhoek to Kalahari Desert
Head southeast into the Kalahari Desert near the Botswana border. The landscape here is striking with its red-orange dunes and yellow grasslands, and you'll spot desert-adapted wildlife including meerkats, cheetahs, hyenas, lions, and various bird species.

Kalahari Desert to Keetmanshoop
Continue south and check out the Quiver Tree Forest in Keetmanshoop on your way to the lodge. You'll stay for two nights here, which gives you time to explore the impressive Fish River Canyon nearby.

- Day 5
Fish River Canyon
After breakfast, drive a short distance to Fish River Canyon, the second largest canyon in the world. The canyon stretches 161 km long and 27 km wide with depths reaching 550 meters. During dry season you can hike in the canyon, and some lodges arrange multi-day hikes if you request. Spend the afternoon relaxing back at your lodge.

Fish River Canyon to Lüderitz
Travel west through the Great Escarpment's open plains toward the coastal town of Lüderitz, watching for wild horses of the Namib along the way. Stop at Kolmanskop, a ghost town from the diamond boom around 1910, then arrive in Lüderitz to explore colonial buildings and see penguins and flamingos around Halifax Island.

Lüderitz to Sossusvlei
Drive through endless plains and mountain ranges into the Namib Desert, the oldest desert in the world. Your lodge sits near Sossusvlei with its towering red sand dunes and scenic Sesriem Canyon. On the way you can optionally stop at Duwisib Castle, a quirky German colonial sandstone fortress in the desert.

- Day 8
Sossusvlei and Sesriem Canyon
Start early to reach Namib Naukluft Park at sunrise and photograph the dunes shifting from gold to bright red and orange. Visit Deadvlei with its dead trees and surreal landscape, explore Sossusvlei surrounded by the world's highest dunes, then climb one for better views. Have breakfast under ancient camel thorn trees, visit Sesriem Canyon on the way back, and finish the day relaxing at the lodge pool.

Travel to Swakopmund, a charming German-influenced coastal town where the Namib Desert meets the Atlantic Ocean. Drive through Gaub and Kuiseb Canyons to Walvis Bay and detour to the Walvis Bay Lagoon, a bird sanctuary hosting thousands of flamingos seasonally. Arrive in Swakopmund to explore its relaxed beach atmosphere and palm-lined streets.

Swakopmund
Spend a leisurely day in Swakopmund, often called Namibia's playground. Relax with coffee and fresh cake at local cafés between the cold Atlantic Ocean and the Namib Desert dunes. Take an optional catamaran cruise to see seals and dolphins with oysters and sparkling wine, or drive to Cape Cross to see the seal colony hosting 80,000 to 100,000 dwarf fur seals.

Swakopmund to Damaraland
Drive a short distance along the Skeleton Coast before heading inland into scenic Damaraland. Pass the majestic Brandberg Massif, Namibia's highest peak at 2,579 meters. This region is one of Africa's last partly untouched areas with Hartmann's mountain zebras, giraffes, springbok, endangered black rhinos, and desert elephants roaming barren rocky landscapes.

Damaraland Exploration
Start early to explore the partly untouched Otjimboyo region and photograph sunrise colors with Brandberg partially shrouded in coastal mist. Visit Burnt Mountain with its striking red, brown, cream, and purple volcanic hues near Twyfelfontein. Optional sundowner tour at sunset offers spectacular photography opportunities.

Experience Etosha Park up close with drives stopping at various waterholes to see zebra, elephant, giraffe, wildebeest, oryx, springbok, and kudu. With luck you might spot nocturnal lions, leopards, cheetahs, or hyenas in early morning or late evening. The park is a paradise for bird lovers with hundreds of documented species. Arrive at your lodge near Namutoni Gate at sunset.
