Kathmandu to Paro to Thimphu
You'll fly from Kathmandu into Paro airport, then transfer to Thimphu, Bhutan's capital. After checking into your hotel, start with Tashichho Dzong, the former royal residence that now serves as the seat of government. The structure's architecture reflects traditional Bhutanese design with intricate details throughout. From there, head to Memorial Chorten, a four-story religious monument packed with deity statues and religious artwork. If you're interested in seeing how locals shop and live, the Farmer's market offers that authentic experience, though it's optional depending on your energy level after traveling.

Thimphu
After breakfast, you'll spend the day diving deeper into Thimphu's cultural side. Trashichhoedzong combines fortress and monastery functions, and the architecture alone makes it worth the visit. Next, the National Library holds important texts and manuscripts related to Bhutanese history. The Arts and Crafts School shows you how traditional Thangka paintings are created, with artisans working on detailed religious artwork. Stop by the Handicrafts area to see local crafts, then circle back to Memorial Chorten before heading back to your hotel for the evening.

Thimphu to Paro
After breakfast, you'll drive from Thimphu to Paro, arriving in a valley ringed by hills. Start at Drukgyel Dzong's ruins, which have historical significance from past conflicts with Tibetan forces. The main activity here is hiking up to Taktsang Monastery, commonly called Tiger's Nest. The trail takes you through forested terrain, and once at the top, you get solid views across Paro valley. The monastery itself showcases traditional Bhutanese artistic crafts and religious decoration, making the effort worthwhile.
