Itinerary
- Day 1
Cotopaxi National Park
You'll head into Cotopaxi National Park early on for a hike up to the Jose Rivas Refuge, where the volcano dominates the landscape above you. The trail climbs through high-altitude terrain with views opening up as you gain elevation. After reaching the refuge and taking in the surroundings, you'll transition to the bike portion, which involves a thrilling descent through rugged Andean paths that require some technical skill and nerve. By early afternoon you'll grab lunch somewhere local, then settle into Machachi for the night where you can rest up before the next day.

Quilotoa Lagoon - Quito
Starting in the morning, you'll check out the indigenous market at Romerillos where you can walk through stalls filled with colorful textiles and local goods, then spend time looking at the intricate artwork created by Tigua painters in their distinctive style. From there it's on to Toachi Canyon, which you'll hike through to see the dramatic rock formations and river below. Later you'll head to Quilotoa Lagoon and take a walk along the crater rim, where the circular lagoon sits in the volcanic depression with steep walls around it. After grabbing lunch, you'll make the drive back to Quito by late afternoon.
