Itinerary
- Day 1
Umbwe Gate to Umbwe Cave Camp
Start early from your hotel and drive to Umbwe Gate for registration. Once you're sorted with your guides and porters, the actual climbing begins through thick cloud forest with a steep, sometimes slippery trail. Trees are covered in moss as you work your way up, and eventually the vegetation opens up to show heathers, tall grasses, and wildflowers before you reach Umbwe Cave Camp for the night.

Umbwe Cave Camp to Barranco Camp
After breakfast, you're heading toward Barranco Camp on a fairly steep forest trail that follows a sharp ridge. This section has a steep 1000m incline, so pace yourself carefully to manage altitude. By lunch you'll notice the terrain getting rockier as vegetation thins out and the path climbs more steadily before dropping down into Barranco Camp.

Landmarks/POIs Barranco Camp - Day 3
Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp
Start with breakfast, then scramble up to the top of Great Barranco and move across scree and ridges into Karanga Valley. From there you can see the icefalls of Heim, Kersten, and Decken Glaciers overhead. After a break, continue past where the Mweka Trail joins in and reach Barafu Camp. Dinner and rest here, and from camp you'll get great views of Mawenzi and Kibo peaks.

Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Hut
You're up early for the push to Kibo Crater's rim, going between Rebmann and Ratzel Glaciers. The final stretch might have snow and you might want an ice-axe or ski stick for balance. Hit Stella Point at the rim, then hike another hour to Uhuru Peak for photos. After that you descend back to Barafu Hut for rest and lunch, continue down past Millenium Camp to Mweka Hut. Mweka Hut to Mweka Village
Have breakfast and finish the descent to Mweka Park Gate where you'll pick up your summit certificates. From there it's roughly an hour down to Mweka Village, and a vehicle meets you for the drive back to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha.
