Itinerary
- Day 1
Engelhartszell
You'll arrive in Engelhartszell on your own and board MS Prinzessin Katharina between 4 and 5 pm. The ship is an upper middle class river vessel, so you'll find your cabin comfortable for the week ahead. Get settled, meet other passengers, and take some time to explore the ship before dinner. The Danube cruise officially begins this evening.

Landmarks Engelhartszell Abbey 
- Day 2
Tulln
Start the morning at Engelhartszell Abbey, where you can see the renovated church and learn about the famous herbal schnapps made here. From there, cycle downstream along the Treppelweg, which follows an old towpath. You have the option to take a longitudinal ferry through the Schlögen Schlinge if you prefer. The route continues by boat to Linz and then to Tulln, covering about 40-43 km of cycling today.

Klosterneuburg - Vienna
Visit Klosterneuburg Abbey just outside Vienna, a 900-year-old Baroque building with the Verdun Altar inside, a significant example of medieval goldsmithing. Later, head to the wine tavern in Kahlenbergerdorf and take a short hike through vineyards up to the Kahlenberg viewing terrace, where you can see Vienna spread out below. The cycling today is approximately 32-39 km.

- Day 4
Vienna
Spend the day exploring Vienna on your own. St. Stephen's Cathedral, Hofburg Palace, and the Ringstrasse boulevard are all worth seeing, with the Burgtheater, State Opera, and City Hall lining the grand avenue. You can walk around the historic center, visit museums, or sit in one of Vienna's famous cafes for coffee and pastries. The ship departs for Krems in the Wachau overnight, so be back by the evening.

Wachau - Melk
Cycle through the Wachau region, often considered one of Europe's most beautiful river valleys. You'll pass through gently rolling hills with small villages, wine terraces climbing the slopes, castles, monasteries, and old ruins scattered throughout. Stop at Dürnstein to see the blue baroque tower of the collegiate church, then continue to Melk where a massive Benedictine abbey overlooks the Danube from high above. This section covers approximately 37 km of cycling.

Strudengau - Grein
Cycle through floodplains with views of charming small towns and sweeping landscapes. The Strudengau section narrows significantly with wooded slopes and rocky banks creating a different scenery. By afternoon you'll reach Grein, a quiet town where Greinburg Castle sits above the Danube. If interested, you can take a guided tour of Austria's oldest residential castle. Today's cycling distance is approximately 51 km.

Mitterkirchen - Mauthausen
Today's ride goes through the Machland plain with open fields and peaceful cycling paths. Stop at the Celtic village of Mitterkirchen to explore what life looked like centuries ago. Then head to Mauthausen to visit the concentration camp memorial, a serious and important historical site. Back on the ship that evening, there's a festive farewell dinner to mark the end of the cycling portion. You'll cover roughly 36-40 km cycling.

Engelhartszell
Wake up early to enjoy the sunrise and quiet morning on deck as the ship travels through the Danube valley. The MS Prinzessin Katharina arrives back in Engelhartszell around 9 am. Disembarkation starts at approximately 9:30 am, bringing your seven-night river cruise to a close.
