    Reykjavik

You'll arrive in Reykjavik and make your way from the airport, which sits about 50 km away from your hotel. Depending on when you land, you can either spend time getting to know the capital on your own or take it easy and rest up before things kick off tomorrow.

After that, you're off to check out Strokkur geyser and Gullfoss waterfall as part of the Golden Circle route. Before wrapping up, you'll stop at a seventh-generation family dairy farm for traditional tastings, then drive to Selfoss for the evening.

From there, head to Skogafoss, which is incredibly powerful, and there's an optional steep path if you want to get closer to the edge. You'll then drive along the southern coast toward Cape Dyrholaey at Iceland's southern tip, where you can see bird cliffs and walk across the dramatic black sand beaches.

The real highlight comes when you get to Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon filled with floating icebergs. You'll recognize it if you've seen it in films before, and then you'll head to Hofn where you're staying at a family-run farm hotel.

  5. Day 5

    East Fjords - Egilsstadir

Today is mostly about the drive itself through the East Fjords region. Towering mountains line the route with small fishing villages tucked at their base, and the Ring Road winds through narrow strips of land between mountains and ocean. The journey really is the main attraction here, giving you time to see how the landscape changes.

You'll cross through remote highlands that look almost lunar, passing through the Modrudalur area before climbing Namaskard Pass at around 410 m high. This is an active volcanic zone with steam vents and bubbling mud springs everywhere. You'll see hot steam springs and geothermal activity throughout, then settle in near Lake Myvatn for the night.

The area has fertile regions with green fields, tons of bird life, and bizarre lava formations and pseudocraters scattered around. You'll end up in Borgarfjordur for the evening.

    · March 15th, 2025
The round trip by bus was great because we saw so much of the Lofoten Islands. As we often had bright sunshine during the day, the high snow-capped mountains with the sea in the foreground were particularly impressive. Regina was an absolutely confident tour guide and enriched the tour with her optimistic manner. Unfortunately, we didn't manage to see the Northern Lights - they were there, but we couldn't see them because of the thick cloud cover, rain or snow. After the bus trip, we also booked a snowshoe hike with Wandering Owl around Tromsö - also a recommendation - although unfortunately you can't book the powder snow that we had. All in all, a wonderful trip with lots of nice memories.
