Itinerary
- Day 1
Arrival in Perthshire
You'll arrive and drive through Scottish landscapes toward Perthshire, passing through glens and mountain scenery. There are optional stops at filming locations from Rob Roy if you're interested, or you could visit Scone Palace and the Perth Museum depending on timing. After settling in, you'll spend the night in Perthshire.

Perthshire to Inverness
From here, head north through Cairngorm National Park and into the Highlands toward Inverness. Stop at Clava Cairns, a significant location from the Outlander series where important scenes were filmed. Culloden Battlefield and its visitor center are also worth a stop if you want to learn about this key moment in Scottish history. You'll have one night in the Inverness area.

- Day 3
Inverness to Thurso
Leave Inverness heading north and check out areas around Loch Bealach Culaidh and Loch Glass where Dark Knight Rises scenes were shot. Dunrobin Castle and the village of Dornoch are good stops along the way. If weather cooperates, you might drive the North Coast 500, Scotland's Route 66, along the North Sea coast with chances to walk on beaches and explore fishing villages. You'll have two nights in the Thurso area.

Orkney Islands or North Coast
You have two options here. Take a ferry to the Orkney Islands for a day trip, seeing Scapa Flow Bay, the Churchill Barriers connecting five islands, and visiting Kirkwall and Stromness. Skara Brae, a 5,000-year-old Stone Age village, is worth seeing, along with the Ring of Brodgar and Standing Stones of Stenness. The Italian Chapel is also there before heading back by ferry. Alternatively, you can drive along the rugged north coast exploring wild coastal landscapes, secluded bays, and long stretches of beach.

Thurso to Gairloch/Ullapool
Head south with options to check out Inverewe Gardens near Poolewe or the harbor town of Ullapool. The North Coast 500 route offers scenic driving and a chance to visit Redpoint if you're interested in film locations. The Ullapool Independent bookshop is worth a browse. Another route takes you via Tongue and Durness to see secluded beaches and Smoo Cave, an impressive limestone sea and freshwater cave. You'll have one night in the Gairloch or Ullapool area.

Journey toward the Isle of Skye with a stop at Eilean Donan Castle, a 13th century fortress that's appeared in films like Highlander and James Bond 007. After that, head to the Isle of Skye where you'll spend two nights. The scenery here is quite striking, and there's plenty to see if you enjoy natural landscapes and film locations.

- Day 7
Isle of Skye
Spend the day on the Isle of Skye exploring dramatic landscapes including the Old Man of Storr rock formation and Fairy Glen valley with its hills and cliffs. The Quaring is a notable filming location used in Macbeth and BFG: Big Friendly Giant. Real dinosaur footprints can be seen in Staffin. If time permits, visit Dunvegan Castle, home to the MacLeod clan with nice gardens. Later, head to Portree, the island capital, known for its colorfully painted houses along the harbor.

Isle of Skye to Oban
Leave Skye by taking the ferry from Armadale to Mallaig, then travel south along the Road to the Isles. The landscape of Glencoe comes next, famous for Harry Potter filming including Hagrid's hut. Stop at Glenfinnan to see the Jacobite Steam Train, which served as the Hogwarts Express in the films, and you have the option to ride it across the viaduct. Loch Shiel appeared as Hogwarts Lake, and Loch Eilt has Eilean na Moine island from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1. You'll have two nights in the Oban area.

- Day 9
Hebridean Islands Day Trip
Take an optional day trip to Mull and Iona in the Hebrides. The Isle of Mull has diverse wildlife including eagles, deer, seals and dolphins, plus the Standing Stones of Dervaig and locations from Entrapment. The Isle of Iona is Scotland's spiritual center with a monastery complex and Celtic crosses known for bringing Christianity to the Highlands. During April through July, you might spot puffins depending on the season.

This region has significant film heritage with Doune Castle appearing in Game of Thrones, Outlander, and Monty Python productions. Kilchurn Castle, one of Scotland's most beautiful castle ruins, has stories about the Campbell clan and its powerful women. You'll have one night in the Trossachs area.

Trossachs to Edinburgh
Start by stopping at Bannockburn Battlefield where Robert the Bruce won against the English in 1314. Then drive to Edinburgh, Scotland's capital, where you can walk through the Old Town and Royal Mile featured in Fast & Furious 9. Check out Cockburn Street from Avengers: Infinity War and Victoria Street, which inspired Diagon Alley in Harry Potter. Greyfriars Kirkyard has gravestones that inspired Harry Potter character names, and George Heriot's School inspired Hogwarts' architecture. Find J.K. Rowling's golden handprints on the City Chambers courtyard. You'll have one night in Edinburgh.
