Itinerary
- Day 1TuiYou'll arrive in Tui at your own pace and have the afternoon and evening free to explore this historic border town on the Spain-Portugal frontier. The old town has a cathedral worth checking out, and there's an international bridge if you want to cross over. If you've got extra time and energy, the nearby town of Valença do Minho is close enough to visit, though it's entirely optional depending on when you arrive. - Day 2Tui to O PorriñoYour Camino Português journey starts with a hike along the Río Miño through Tui's streets. Expect some tough climbs along this stage, but you'll get nice views to make up for it. After crossing the river, you head up to Ribadelouro. Most of the path runs through paved and urban terrain, though there's an alternative route through As Gándaras Natural Park toward O Porriño if you want something less built-up. Either way, you'll finish in the quiet village of O Porriño. - Meals

- Day 3O Porriño to RedondelaThis stage brings more challenging uphill sections, particularly as you climb toward Alto de Inxertado, but the views make the effort worthwhile. From there it's a gentler descent toward Mos and then Redondela. This town has some interesting history with its folklore festivals and celebrations, plus a church dedicated to St. James if you want to take a look around. - Meals

- Day 4Redondela to PontevedraYou'll walk through lush forests heading toward Setefontes and Arcade, where you can see the Vigo estuary in the distance. Arcade itself is known for its oysters if you want to grab some lunch. The route crosses the historic Puente de Sampaio bridge over the Río Verdugo before reaching Pontevedra. Once there, check out the church of Virgen Peregrina, which according to local legend helped guide lost pilgrims toward Santiago. - Meals

- Day 5Pontevedra to Caldas de ReisThis is a more relaxed hiking day across relatively flat ground as you pass through several villages heading to Caldas de Reis. This historic town, possibly named after King Alfonso VII, has some interesting remains from the past including an old bathhouse. The area also features beautiful oak forests along the banks of the Río Umia, making for a pleasant walk. - Meals

- Day 6Caldas de Reis to PadrónYou'll hike through diverse terrain today including vineyards, cereal fields, the Bermañá Valley, and forests of chestnut and eucalyptus. The route follows the Río Bermañá up to O Cruceiro at the highest point of the day, then descends as you cross the Río Ulla to reach Padrón. Legend connects this town to the Apostle James, and it's famous for its Padrón peppers, so definitely try some while you're here. - Meals

- Day 7Padrón to Santiago de CompostelaThe final stage takes you toward Santiago along the railroad line to Iría Flavia, then up to O Milladoiro where you'll start seeing the cathedral towers. When you reach Santiago, you'll enter through the ornate Pórtico de la Gloria into the majestic cathedral. If you want to attend the pilgrims' mass at noon, you'll need to start early enough to make it. - Meals

- Day 8Santiago de CompostelaYou have a full day to explore Santiago at your own pace. There's a guided tour of the old town included (around 1 hour) with a German-speaking guide, and you'll also get a typical Galician cheese tasting at a local dairy. Make sure to visit the pilgrims' office to pick up your Compostela, the official certificate that proves you've completed the pilgrimage. - Meals
