Anchorage to Seward
Start exploring Anchorage on your own this morning, and you'll definitely want to check out Lake Spenard with its seaplane airfield - it's quite a sight. Then head south toward the Kenai Peninsula and hike to Exit Glacier, one of the world's most accessible ones. You'll stay 2 nights in Seward after that.

- Day 3
Seward
This day in the Seward area is yours to shape. You can hike around the region, take a boat tour through Kenai Fjord National Park to see glaciers and wildlife, or visit the Alaska Sea Life Center aquarium. Pick what appeals to you most.

Seward to Denali National Park
Leave the Pacific coast behind and head north along Turnagain Arm, then travel via George Parks Highway to Denali National Park. There's an optional glacier flight available in the evening if you're interested. You'll stay 2 nights at Denali Totem Inn.

Denali National Park
Take the park shuttle bus for a full day tour through Denali National Park. On a clear day, you'll see Mount Denali at 20,310 feet - the highest peak in the USA. Watch for Dall sheep, moose, caribou, and bears going about their day. You're back at the hotel by evening.

Denali to Glennallen
Travel east along the Denali Highway through remote wilderness with spectacular views all around. This less traveled route gives photographers plenty of opportunities. You'll stay one night in Glennallen.

Glennallen to Dawson City
Drive the Top of the World Highway, one of North America's most scenic high-altitude routes. You'll pass through high plateaus, boreal forests, and tundra before crossing into Canada at Little Gold Creek. Take a ferry across the Yukon River to reach Dawson City. You're staying 3 nights here.

- Day 8
Dawson City
Spend your day exploring Dawson City, a historic gold prospecting center at the mouth of the Klondike River. Visit active gold mines at Bonanza and Eldorado Creek, then drive up to Midnight Dome for views across the region. By evening, catch a cancan performance at Diamond Tooth Gerties, Canada's oldest casino.

Dawson City to Tombstone Mountains
Do a spectacular day hike at the foot of the Tombstone Mountains. Drive along the Dempster Highway, the only road connection to the Arctic Ocean and over 730 kilometers long. The landscape here is striking with tundra and mountains that really do look like something from another world.

Tombstone Mountains to Whitehorse
Travel past the Yukon River and along the Klondike Highway toward Whitehorse. You'll stop at Five Finger Rapids, which historically caused trouble for paddle steamers. Stay one night in Whitehorse after that drive.

Whitehorse to Kluane National Park
Head toward Kluane National Park with short stops to see the longest wooden salmon ladder and the Native American village of Champagne. In the afternoon, hike the Auriol Trail, which loops around nicely. You'll stay 2 nights near the park.

Kluane to Skagway
Pass Kathleen and Dezedash Lakes to reach the harbor town of Haines. Take a scenic ferry through Lynn Fjord to Skagway. That evening, find a historic pub for live music and a drink to soak up the old gold mining atmosphere. You're staying one night in Skagway.

Skagway to Whitehorse
Start with a hike on the lower section of the Chilkoot Trail, then leave Skagway on the final leg to Whitehorse. Travel through coastal mountains past Windy Arm with scenic stops along the way. You'll stop in Carcross to visit the Carcross Desert, the smallest desert in the world, and see Emerald Lake, which locals call Rainbow Lake. Stay one night in Whitehorse.
