Itinerary
- Day 1
Vientiane to Pak Lay
After breakfast, you'll get a safety briefing and then head out on your motorbike from Vientiane along the Mekong River road. The ride covers about 150 km of compressed dirt, so it'll be a bit rough but manageable. There's a lunch stop at a local restaurant partway through, and you'll cross the river by ferry before reaching Pak Lay. Once you arrive, your guides will work with you after dinner to help refine your riding technique for the days ahead.

- Day 2
Pak Lay to Hongsa
Starting early, you'll ride north on Route 4 through rolling hills and rice fields with remote villages scattered along the way. The roads are a mix of paved and dirt as you head toward Xayaboury for lunch. From there, it's more dirt roads to Hongsa. You might see working elephants in the fields, and there are good spots for photos in these quiet areas. If your group arrives with time to spare, an optional elephant ride is available.

Hongsa to Luang Prabang
The roads improve significantly today as you head toward Luang Prabang. You'll cross the Mekong River and pull into the city by lunchtime. Your afternoon is free to do whatever appeals to you, whether that's walking around, getting a massage, sitting by the river, or handling any emails. Dinner with the group is included, and afterward you can check out the night market on your own if you want.

- Day 4
Luang Prabang to Vieng Thong
Early risers can catch the monk alms procession at 05:30, then breakfast happens at 07:15 before departure at 08:00. You'll ride 35 km on paved road, then turn northeast onto compressed dirt through mountains alongside the Nam Xeun River. Lunch comes midway through the day, either a picnic or at a local spot. The highlight is the famous 'Rock Star Highway' where local kids enthusiastically greet riders. You'll end in the remote town of Vieng Thong, visiting the Wildlife Conservation Laos office and experiencing the town's rustic character.

Vieng Thong to Xam Nua
An early start takes you east through Nam Et Phouy National Protected Area on paved but rough mountain roads. You'll pass through numerous villages before reaching Xam Nua by noon. After lunch and checking in, you'll ride another 30 km east to Vieng Xai for a tour of the Phathet Lao Hidden Cave City from the Indochina War era. A local specialist guide leads you through at least 3 impressive caves, explaining their role as shelter for Laos' founding fathers. You'll return to Xam Nua for dinner.

Xam Nua to Phonsavan
You'll head back early on the mountain road with a mid-morning stop at Suan Hin Standing Stones. Lunch happens in Nam Neun, then you continue on high elevation paved road for roughly 90 km. There's a stop at Tam Piew Cave to take in views and hear some local history before riding good paved road into Phonsavan for a late afternoon arrival. Dinner is at a local restaurant.

- Day 7
Phonsavan
A short ride gets you to Site 1 of the Plain of Jars, then you'll visit Sites 2 and 3 throughout the morning. You'll loop around to Old Xieng Khoung for lunch and return via Phonsavanh, then take a dirt road loop north to see remote villages. The landscape shows scattered bomb craters from the heavy bombing of the late 1960s and 1970s. Back in Phonsavan by late afternoon, you'll visit the MAG (Mine Advisory Group) offices to watch a film about unexploded ordinance clearing work in Laos.

- Day 8
Phonsavan to Vang Vieng
Just outside Phonsavanh, there's a short stop at a Buddha Cave with some stairs to climb, but it's well-lit and manageable. From there, you'll ride on excellent winding roads to Phou Khoun, then head south on Highway 13. Lunch is at a hillside restaurant with views of a deep valley below. You'll arrive mid-afternoon in Vang Vieng, where you're staying for 2 nights. After settling in, dinner is at Xayoh Cafe, which is known for serving good pizza.

Vang Vieng
Your day in Vang Vieng is completely free. If you want to rest and relax around town, that works fine. Alternatively, an optional half-day kayak tour is available if you're interested in getting on the water. Either way, you'll spend the night at your hotel.

Vang Vieng to Vientiane
After breakfast at the hotel, you'll have some leisure time in Vang Vieng before riding back to Vientiane to wrap up your motorbike adventure. It's a chance to enjoy the morning before heading home.
