You'll arrive at Melbourne International Airport and head to your hotel to settle in. After checking in, the rest of the day is yours to explore. Take time wandering through the city's famous laneways and hunting for street art, or swing by Federation Square and walk along the Yarra River. Queen Victoria Market's worth a stop if you're interested in the local scene, and hopping on one of Melbourne's trams gets you to places like the Royal Botanic Gardens and Melbourne Museum without much fuss.

Melbourne
You'll join a small-group city sights tour starting at the Immigration Museum, then move through Eastern Hill, the Treasury Building, Parliament House, and the historic Windsor Hotel. The tour covers the Golden Mile while walking through the city's Gold Rush history from the 1850s. You'll see Queen Victoria Market and the coffee culture in Melbourne's Little Italy, check out the UNESCO-protected Royal Exhibition Building, and swing through the Arts Precinct. There's a stop at a major Australian Rules Football stadium, and you'll walk through the Royal Botanical Gardens to see the Ornamental Lake. Sydney

From there, you're heading to the CBD and Macquarie Street to see the 18th century sandstone architecture including Parliament House, the Rum Hospital, and Hyde Park Barracks. Sydney

Head over to Circular Quay to watch the ferries or book a harbour cruise if something appeals to you. Grab lunch at a cafe somewhere in The Rocks and take your time looking around. Finish things off with a sunset walk along Darling Harbour, taking in the vibrant atmosphere and any outdoor performances happening that evening.

Cairns
You'll fly into Cairns from Sydney and transfer to your accommodation. Once you're settled, the tropical city's yours to explore. The Cairns Esplanade has plenty of bars, cafes, and markets to check out, or head to the large saltwater lagoon for a swim. The Cairns Botanic Gardens have tropical plants and rainforest boardwalks if you want something quieter, and the Night Markets are good for food stalls and local crafts. If indigenous culture interests you, the Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park teaches about local traditions.

Fitzroy Island
You're heading out for a full day on Fitzroy Island, a tropical spot within the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. Your fast air-conditioned catamaran departs Cairns at 8:45am and takes about an hour to get there. You'll spend roughly 6.5 hours on the island exploring the lush rainforests, granite rock formations, coral beaches, and clear waters. The package includes self-guided rainforest walks, snorkel gear (mask, snorkel, fins, and lycra suit), plus a glass bottom boat tour. Beach activity equipment is available if you want it. Your boat heads back to Cairns around 5:00pm.
