Itinerary
- Day 1
Paro to Thimphu
You'll arrive at Paro airport where your guide will meet you, then drive to Thimphu for hotel check-in. After settling in, head to Kuensel Phodrang Buddha statue to take in the valley views from above. Spend some time at the Craft Bazaar, which has around 80 stalls selling traditional Bhutanese handicrafts, then finish the day at the Institute for Zorig Chusum where you can see the arts school teaching traditional techniques.

- Day 2
Thimphu
Following breakfast, drive over to Tashi Chodzong for the festival, then walk through the Takin Preserve to see the national animal (you won't find these anywhere else in the world). Later, head to the Weekend Market on the riverbanks where locals shop and gather. The afternoon involves checking out both traditional and modern archery, Bhutan's national sport, with tournaments happening most days.

Punakha
After breakfast, take a short hike up to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten for commanding views over the upper Punakha Valley. Later, walk around Limbukha village and cross a 200m suspension bridge with Dzong views, then hike through farmland growing Bhutan's well-known medicinal red rice. The village itself has a peaceful reputation for its peace negotiator traditions.

Punakha to Paro
Drive back to Paro and start with Tamchog Lhakhang, checking out the iron chain suspension bridge built in the 13th century by Tibetan saint Thangthong Gyalpo. You'll get a bird's eye view of Paro Airport from nearby. Check into your hotel and then visit the National Museum, which sits inside a watchtower and has artifacts showing Bhutan's culture and history. Finish with an evening walk through Paro town and local handicraft shops.

- Day 5
Paro
Hike up to Taktsang Monastery (Tiger's Nest) over roughly 2 hours to reach the viewpoint with cliff views, then stop for a refreshment before continuing another hour to the monastery itself. After looking around, walk back down and have lunch at the viewpoint cafeteria. Later, drive 30 minutes north to Drukgyel Dzong fortress ruins, built in 1649 and destroyed by fire in 1951, which is currently being reconstructed.
