- Day 1
Fes
Your driver will meet you at the airport holding a card with your name, then take you to your hotel or riad in Fes. You'll have time to rest and get settled after your arrival. Fes itself is a UNESCO World Heritage site, so when you're ready to explore, you'll find an ancient medina, colorful souks, and intricate architecture throughout the city.

Fes
A locally-born guide will take you through Fes on a private tour, showing you the largest medina in the world and landmarks like America Fondouk, Nejjarines, the Tanneries, and Karaouine, which was the first established university in the world. Your guide will share stories spanning 1200 years of this UNESCO-protected medina, including details about the scholars and artisans who made this city important historically.

Fes to Merzouga
You'll start early heading southeast from Fes toward Merzouga and the Sahara. The route takes you through cedar forests near Ifran where you might see Barbary Macaques, then through Midelt for lunch. After passing the Middle Atlas Mountains and the Ziz Valley with its date palms, you'll reach Merzouga and mount a camel for an hour-long ride into the desert with a blue-turbaned guide. You'll watch the sunset over the dunes and sleep in a Bedouin-style tent.

Merzouga to Dades Gorges
Early morning brings the sunrise over the Sahara dunes, followed by breakfast and another hour-long camel ride to Erfoud where you can see million-year-old fossils. From there you'll continue to Todgha Gorges with its dramatic rock walls, then arrive at Dades Gorges with rust-red mountains, old kasbahs, and Berber villages. If you have energy left, you can hike for a couple of hours after dropping your luggage at the hotel.

Dades Gorges to Marrakech
Departing Dades at 8:00am, you'll drive through the valley of roses and daggers toward the red mud-brick kasbah from the 11th century that was used in films like Lawrence of Arabia and Game of Thrones. There's an option to explore Ouarzazate and Taourirt Kasbah. The route then winds through the Tizi n'Tichka pass and High Atlas Mountains, passing Berber villages before reaching Marrakech. You'll spend the rest of the day at Jamaa El Fnaa square checking out musicians, snake charmers, and vendors with your guide.

Marrakech
Your locally-born guide will lead you through Marrakech's old medina, walking through skinny lanes to see Bahia Palace, El-Badii Palace, and Saadien's Tombs with their marble work. Later in the day you'll head outside the medina to visit Majorelle Garden, Museum Saint Laurent, and the Berber Museum. Throughout everything you'll experience the energy of the city with motorcyclists, horse-carts, and the nightly activity at Jamaa El-Fnaa with performers and storytellers.

Marrakech to Casablanca to Rabat to Meknes to Fes
You'll depart Marrakech heading through Morocco's major cities on one long travel day. First is Casablanca to see Hassan II Mosque, then Rabat to explore its historic sites and markets. From there you'll continue to Meknes, a UNESCO World Heritage site, to see the Bab Mansour gate and walk the medina. Finally you'll arrive in Fes where the narrow alleyways and historic character of this ancient city await you.
