Itinerary
- Days 1 - 3
Hersonissos
Start in Hersonissos and head to Knossos Palace, one of the major Minoan archaeological sites where you'll see the remains of this ancient civilization. After that, spend time at the Archaeological Museum in Heraklion checking out the Minoan collection with jewelry, pottery, and other artifacts. You'll also have the chance to do a wine tasting tour of local Cretan wines. From there, go to Agios Nikolaos to see Mirabello Bay and Lake Voulismeni. The fish town of Elounda is worth a walk through, and consider taking a boat trip out to Spinalonga island for its history and views. Two nights give you time to really see what the region has to offer.

- Days 4 - 6
Chania
Head to the Chania region and explore Balos and Elafonisi beaches, both known for their turquoise waters and different landscapes. Balos lagoon gives great views from above, while Elafonski has various spots to swim. Later, wander through the old town of Chania, which was the former capital and second-largest city on the island. You'll find narrow alleyways with historical buildings and lots of boutiques to check out. The combination of beaches and town gives you both nature and culture in one area.

- Days 7 - 8
Rethymnon
Spend time in Rethymnon exploring the traditional taverns and local food scene. Head to Margarites, a small village known for pottery that's been made there for generations. You can watch local artisans at work and join a pottery workshop if that interests you. Then move on to the Maravell Botanical Garden in Spili, which has Mediterranean plants, flowers, and herbs throughout. Walking the colorful pathways and learning about Cretan flora takes a couple hours, and you'll finish with herbal tea made from plants grown right there in the garden.
