Itinerary
- Day 1
Cairo to Alexandria
Your hotel pickup in Cairo gets you on the road to Alexandria, which takes about 3 hours to reach. Once there, you'll start at the Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa, where you can walk through three tiers of Roman tombs that mix Egyptian, Greek, and Roman design elements together. It's one of the largest burial sites from that era in Egypt. After that, you'll stop at the Citadel of Qaitbay for photos, a 15th-century fortress standing where the ancient Lighthouse of Alexandria once stood. Then comes the Roman Amphitheatre, which still has thirteen terraces intact and gives you a real sense of what entertainment venues looked like back then. Before heading back to Cairo, you'll check out the Alexandria Library with its open court and free museums to wander through. The drive back to your hotel takes another 3 hours, so you'll return in the evening.
